Office Depot Platinum Series Color Inkjet Paper, 24 lb.

(No, really, despite what you see below, I can spell platinum -- I was slightly distracted by a little furprobate when performing my test.)

On a whim, I decided to give a high quality inkjet paper a try. This paper costs about $7 for 500 sheets. As I understand it, 24lb is about the lightest paper that plays well with rollabind. Also, of the things I noticed while shopping today is that 24lb is the highest "common" weight of inkjet paper -- as soon as the weight hits 28 or 32lb, the price triples. 150 sheets of HP's premium 32lb inkjet paper cost $20!

The texture of the paper is smooth and silky though not quite as silky as the laser paper. As you can see from the picture below, there isn't much in the way of noticible feathering -- but once again, the Pilot Varsity had the most feather, must be something about their ink -- but the paper tends to broaden and soften the edges of lines, all but eliminating line weight variation. There's also a very slight dry time needed, especially with a wet writer like the Pelikano jr.

Despite the fact that it's a thinner paper than the 28lb I did a write up on yesterday, there's little show through on the back side.

My verdict? I'll see how it holds up in my circa notebooks, but if it does, it's a keeper.

In your experience, do you notice a difference when you compare the performance of ink jet vs. laser paper. I ask because it would seem that ink jet paper would respond better to FP use, what do you think?

I've been using this stuff and it works great, including in my ink jet printer :D

They put it on sale every now and then. The last purchase I made was buy 2 get 1 free.

I like the idea that it is free of most chemicals that would cause it to degrade over time.

Both write smoothly and well, but inkjet paper "softens" the line of the ink. If you want to do calligraphy, or want something really crisp that shows line weight variation and shading, don't use inkjet.

My personal preference is for the laser paper, but the inkjet performs acceptably, too, and I'll continue to template, cut, and smurf it until I go through the ream.

If you want a cheaper but still pretty nice FP friendly paper and don't need/want the heavy stock, this is a good choice.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
