Ink For A Pelikan M101N

Hi all,

I am keenly awaiting the delivery of the Pelikan M101n Lizard SE. I have one on pre-order for delivery in December.

Whilst i'm waiting for the beast, I would like to zero down some options on ink.

The pen has a grey lizard skin pattern, but I was thinking something on the lines of 'lizard blood', which although I know is red of course, feels like it should be green

The simple question is, what would best suit this pen so that the ink is in character with it's looks? I have no preference for this one and would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Mike

Same here! I've had this soul-searching already and have decided on R&K Verdigris for mine. Well, first fill anyway! It's one of my favourite inks and I think the colours should look good together. At present I use Verdigris solely in my M420 and they look good too. In my M101N Tortoiseshell I've Diamine Presidential Blue and might change that for something else at some point.

I have also preordered, but I don't care for the ink so much, because I don't think that this will improve the joy of writing that much. Because it's grey almost any ink will fit nicely. Usually in a new pen I use a very well behaving ink I do know very well from a lot of pens and writing sessions - like Herbin's Perle Noire or Eclat de Saphir. This way I get a good impression of the pens writing capabilities.

The last time I had used the original pen I had an irongall ink in it. Maybe for continuity's sake I'll try that, too :-) But I can imagine a green ink, too, maybe a moss green, dark green?

Personally I think a grey ink would fit quite well, but it's difficult to tell beforehand. It depends on how the pen really looks. It's been the same with the tortoise: On preview pictures it looked more yellow/reddish, the final pen has more of a green tint to it.

I'd go grey first but OK green. Noodler's El Lawrence or maybe Gruene Eel? DeAtramentis Mouse Grey is supposed to be greenish and you find mice in lizards.

I was very pleasantly surprised with Pelikan Green.

Why I should have been I don't know. Just no one talks of it.

It is a green ink...not shaded this way or that.

It shades some.

Take out empty pen and fill it...middle of the road green-green.

I do like the reddish brown they make.

The blue black, the turquoise. Green is a quite nice ink that shades on good paper.

I will buy another bottle when it's done.

That is one gorgeous magnificent pen! I'd vote for a grey first but a seaweed green would be nice too. Personally I think any colour would fit this beautiful pen!

All great suggestions, thank you! I have a long list which I can now narrow down and do some trials. All good fun

I will be posting a review of the pen once received...now what did I do with that macro lens, umm

Cheers

And I still reckon my first fill will be with the R&K Verdigris.

I love my tortoise shell and brown M101n. I have Diamine Ancient Copper in it now. It has a BB nib ground to cursive italic by Mr. Mottishaw--a real winner! This is the first I've heard of this pen, but I'll have to order one, now. Verdigris sounds like a good choice of ink, but the grays would work, too. I have some iroshizuku kiri-same in a Sailor Pro Gear that I have always liked. Those storm clouds in a bottle might go well with this reptilian pen. One should keep in mind the large ink window and how the ink looks in the pen.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Apache Sunset.

j/k

I was also going to say Lexington Gray. It's pretty close to the color coming from the textured parts of the pen. If you want something green, how about Herbin Vert Empire? It's a high-shading "verdigris" color -- more gray than green and very subdued.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
