Very interesting color. Reminds me a bit of squeteague I guess. Pretty. definitely not blue to my eye. I was thinking (from other scans) that it looked more like a very dark and rather unattractive blue-black. But your scan looks nice.

From the way the scan looks on my monitor here at work, it reminds me of Noodler's Aircorp Blue Black. :)

Great review. I love Private Reserve inks, overall my favorite line.

I thought first my eyes are playing a trick to me because on my monitor the colour looks exactly like Ebony green and not like what I've expected to be blue! But a second look at your writing proofed that it really IS a blue - wow, that's an interesting colour, but definitively more a blue towards the green sprectrum. A dark turquoise, if there is ever such a colour. But interesting, though, although I've expected Ebony Blue to be more like DC Electric or Midnight Blues

When it comes to inks like this, I always have to consider how they look next to another blue or green. On its own, for example, Tanzanite is purple to me. Would never call it blue. Sandwich a sample of Tanzanite between a couple of true purple inks, and it's blue. :) On my monitor, I'd never call that Ebony Blue "blue" - just like PRs Blue Suede is not blue. But put them next to Avacado or Sherwood, and they're blue leaning toward green.:)

It's a turquoise + black. I'm glad someone posted a review; I'd been meaning to and hadn't gotten to it.

Ditto.

Very strong presence of green on my monitor.

After thought,

Kind of like ACBB, it grows on me the more I look at it.

Many thanks for your review.

I got this ink a couple of days ago and was planning to do a review of the new PR colors soon as well.

The Ebony Blue did not meet my expectations of a "Blue" ink as well; it realls is a turquoise green with blue tones. Bringing out three new colors green, blue and purple I expected a true dark blue which would habe been more differnt from the Ebony Green.

I'll check what those inks will compare to the best.

Cheers

Michael

Does this look like a lighter version of Noodler's Ellis Island Blue-black to anyone else?

I am with everyone else in trying to find the blue in this ink, especially since this is the swatch for it on the Art Brown website (which is along the lines of what one would expect - a variation of blue-black).

I was given a bottle of this ink and no swipes or fills have ever come close to this:

I know that some people here have contacts at the different manufacturers. Does anyone here know someone at Private Reserve who they could ask about the apparent discrepancy? I mean, I am a bit surprised that they named it Ebony Blue when it looks like all of us believes that it does.

I've been using this for a couple days now and while it's a nice color, it's not what I was looking for to use in the pen in which it is currently loaded.

Out of the Omas Fine nib, it looks like dark Legal Lapis. I was looking for a dark blue for this pen and may switch to DC Supershow. I am very happy with the technical aspects of this ink, especially the drying time compared to Ebony Green and other saturated inks. It flows and lubes well, too.

Definitely Greenish  (from the scan)

Thanks for the nice review penguinmaster.

I've never had any problems with the Private Reserves in my Moles & Rhodies - and have enjoyed making a few custom colors for drawing apps.

I purchased this ink based upon the company swatch - perfect attachment MikeW. I know the swatches are not exact, but I was looking for more of a blue. I may put on my mad scientist coat and try to blend something special.

looks like a very nice and interesting color, I might think of that ink in the future.

I actually really like this color. It's a nice alternative for someone looking for something "professional" but different. Have you spied any of the rumored "red sheen"? I cannot for the life of me see it in person, but it has shown up in photos I have taken of this ink. I plan on reviewing it soon.

It's a great colour! I just tried this ink in my Sailor Naginata-Broad nib and it completely converted me over to Private Reserve inks! The flow is wet and smooth, and the ink doesn't exhibit nib creep, unlike the Sailor Blue ink I was previously using in this pen! Kudos to PR!
