Review:J Herbin's Vert Olive

What a splendid resource FPN and it's members are!!!!Where else can one digest such information and reviews??The reviews have always helped me in

deciding which inks,pens or papers to purchase.

I adore browns and greens!!There have been some wonderful reviews of many but i have not seen a J Herbin Vert Olive review.

So i figured i would try to give some impressions along with digital photos.I tried to use the scanner but the results were actually better with the Nikon D50 than with the HP scanner.Please forgive my handwriting due to dealing with a sinus infection and the related medication.

Usually i write smoother and straighter

 

Here are photos #1 and 2.I will let the page speak on it's own how i liked the ink.Both under different lamps,intensity.

The colours reproduced on the photos were rather accurate with a slightly darker hue on the dark inks .The Herbin came out a wee bit more yellowish on the

photograph.A minute amount of greenish and it would be perfect!

Both the Herbin and Stipula are so nice to use.The Herbin and Stipula flow smooth out of all my pens whereas the Noodlers tend to be less viscous,leading to some clogging issues occasionally (when not used frequently).

 

So,all in all,i really like it.J Herbin make some nice inks albeit a bit expensive for such a small amount.Like the bottle design though.Elegant.

 

I only wish the photo didn't look so "mustardish" :roflmho: It really is green!!!

Thanks for another great ink review! I liked the bonus comparisons also -- Pushkin seems to look different in every image I've seen. I like unusual greens, too, and your review makes me think it's time to break out the Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgruen, which is also a lighter, different sort of green.

Thanks for the review. I've often thought about getting Vert Olive and doing a mix with R&K Alt-Goldgrun in hopes of getting a lighter gold color. Depending on the nib & paper I'm using, sometimes with the latter alone I get the shade I want, but too often the Alt-goldgrun looks too dark and too green.

I've always wondered about Herbin Olive, but being devoted to R&K Alt-Goldgrun (along with all their inks, really) I thought it might be too close to be worth buying. I see now that I need not worry, so will order it forthwith.

 

Both the El Lawrence and the Pushkin look great as well, but neither seem to be available in the UK ...

Funny how the El Lawrence is supposed to be a UK marketed ink and it is not available.I bought mine from here:

I LOVE Olive Vert. It may be my favorite.

Wonderful handwriting! lots of personality... very readable.

Also, mind if I ask due to the direction, a lefty?

..though I'm trying to slant right now, my right handed taught Palmer was only readable if slanted left. Moved from FP schools to BP schools during the learning process.

Also, a green was on my list at the MI show, but was debating over the Caran d'Ache Amazon.. & the J Herbin Gruene? wasn't available... really did want light, tutti-fruity, or Xmas tree green... Thanks for showing another option.. don't spose you have the Amazon, & Gruene for a sidexside view?

Great review. It actually reminded me that I did have some El Lawrence (got before the Writing Desk stopped selling it) and I loaded it into my Van Gogh. Writes beautifully in it. Going to use it for the next few days. Thanks.

Actually i'm right handed but tend to write in so many different styles,i never know where i'm at.Next week it might be indented to the right more

Enjoyed the review, thank you! I gave a Stipula Duetto (yellow) and a bottle of Olive Vert as a graduation gift (from high school, leaving for college) to a young man, and he LOVED the combination of pen & ink.

 

Last night I filled Herbin ink in a Stipula for the first time, and as Jim said, it's a good match. Nice flow, not too wet.

 

Didn't know you were ill--hope you're feeling better.

I vote for the Stipula ink. You call it verde, but it seems brown in the photo. I know Stipula makes a brown ink also (sepia, perhaps?). I'm surprised that they would market a green and a brown so close together in color, as they only do a few inks.
