Bung Box Inks Reviews

Recommended Posts

I am happy to announce that I just placed an order for ten Bung Box inks with White Rabbit. I'm planning on reviewing all of them eventually, but I was hoping to get some fees back on what to review first. So, what do you all want to see?

Bung Box Blue Black(4B)

Bung Box 88

Bung Box Hikari

Bung Box Emerald

Bung Box L'Amant

Bung Box June Bride Something Blue

Bung Box Ruby

Bung Box Sakana-machi tipsy

Bung Box Hamanako Eel

Bung Box Ink of the Witch

Also: if Amber sees this; would you be interested in a sheet of these done up for fade tests? I live outside Portland, OR, not conducive to direct sun exposure....

I'm really curious about the 88. It's one of the inks that is always on the chopping block and I never end up buying.

Will do. Your reviews are the reason I fell in love with sailor inks at first. I don't know wether to hate or love you after spending $250 on ink....

Any preference for paper types? I have access to Tomoe(cream), Clairefontaine, Rohdia, Apica CD, L!FE wove(cream&white), Crown Mill original, and Crown Mill Cotton plus #20 bond.

B-b (4B) please. Rhodia wouldn't be bad. Ifpossible a few b-b comparisons.

Thanks

Mike

I want to say I'm sorry, but I'm kind of not. :P I actually just spent $300 on the newly advertised set of ten Sailor inks too, so I sympathize! I'm going to start doing Sailor ink comparisons - ie. starting sheets for inks of a certain colour from all of Sailor's offered groups. All the royal blues from all the groups of Sailor inks, all the pinks, etc. i'll include the Kobe, bung Box, Kingdom Note, Ishida Bungu, Maruzen, and anything else I come across. It will take forever, but I think it will be really interesting to see the results.

I'd love to see 88 on Rhodia dotPad paper, and maybe a quick Tomoe River sample. The rest of the inks you mentioned I either already have, have on the way, or I'm not too interested in anyway. But I really appreciate the offer of showing off 88 to us all. :)

Will do, I'm looking forward to this one a lot myself. I have Sailor Sei-Boku and Noodler's Bad Blue Kingfisher, but that's about it for B-B's. Would Pilot Blue be a helpful Baseline?

Don't sweat it, your reviews simply enabled my own preexisting problem. I only started on FP's in September and I already have $2300 in pens and with this $700 in ink. I may have a problem..... :wallbash: I'll make sure to put the 88 up first thing, and the Rhodia dotpad and Tomoe is no problem.

Tomoe & Clairefontaine, please. Rhodia adds too much yellow to my eyes.

Can do. I'll probably use Rhodia dotpad for the base and add samples on all the papers listed above.

Should have got sky blue too. One of the most beautifully etherial colours I've ever used...

But please: Tomoe reviews! (It's the only paper I use any more. Damn design.y and their perfect notebooks!)

Too many pens; too little writing.

Is this the sky blue one you mean?

I'd love to see a quick writing sample. I've always been curious about this one but it seemed too washed out for my tastes. Is it nice looking?

That's the one. Yes, it is "washed out", but beautiful, delicate, other-worldly pale (like a London midsummer sky) rather than insipid... One of my absolute favourite colours.

EDITED:

Here's a photo from my CE Levi review (which somehow disappeared from the review index). It is a much more beautiful colour in person...

Oh no! Now I really need to bury my wallet somewhere, before this happens!

OH, wow, sorry I missed this YES YES - please send me your sheets and I'll add them to the window. These will go on the 2015 window.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
