Here's a tiny comparison of Kaweco's aubergine/lavender and De Atramentis' Aubergine.

From top to bottom: Pelikano M, swab of 50 µl, Lamy Joy 1.5 mm, Herbin glass F.

That's really interesting Lapis. I've got the Kaweco in one of my Platinum pens at the moment but it's in cartridge form as I can't seem to get the bottled stuff here. Mine looks slightly darker than your scan, however I'm using it on a Japanese paper (Midori). I like the dusky, greyish hue.

I love that DA Aubergine. It looks a good, rich tone. I'm very tempted to get some of that.

ps Are you liking the CF Graf It?

It would be interesting to throw Daimine Damson into the mix. I wonder which it would be closest to the Kaweco or the De Atramentis?

What a neat idea! Never thought of that. I have the Damson, but just haven't used it for a long time. So here we go. Same story as above... That same piece of GraF it together with a new piece alongside it in a new scan.

To me, it looks like this: Diamine is exactly somewhere in between. It's almost as dark as De Atramentis, and it has more grey than both of the others, but the degrees of red and blue are hard to judge here.

De Atramentis' Aubergine was one of my very first DA inks. It is a well saturated ink, with no shading.

Good for a dry pen.

Why have a dry pen?...to use wet inks.

Thanks, this is just the ink comparison I wanted to see! I use Damson and the DeAt Aubergine and like them both very much.

I have the DeAtramentis.

Very nice flow, especially in dry pens. Makes them smoooooth.

Yes, the ink smells nice too...This is the only DA ink I have, my first impressions have been positive. Their color selection is 'different', perhaps I'll get another DA in future!

And I love aubergines :)

Thanks, everybody. I myself love the heck out of aubergines... yes, of course the colour itself is stunning but even more the very discriminant taste of those veggies... unfortunately very difficult to turn them inrto a simple moussaka...

I'd put Diamine Damson as much drier than Kaweco's aubergine, and darker by a smidge. I prefer Kaweco's shade, so it's nice that they've finally put it in a bottle!

Hey Lapis,

If it is difficult to turn it into Moussaka....

Why don't you try to grate the ink bottle with cheese and Garlic...

Guten appetit ! :-)

Side dish...

Mixed salad with De Atramentis dressing :-)

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
