Lyle Ross Richland 4 Redwood Lace Burl

This is my first review and my first foray in custom pens. I saw this pen on FPN made by Lyle Ross and just had to have one. I contacted Lyle to see if he would even make one for me...I was stunned when he replied he would. What really attracted me was the "custom" part and since I am an ex/old wood pattern-maker this was the pen for me! I liked the fat circumference and loved the Redwood used along with the flat ends and black finials.

 

Now to my pen: The basic design is Lyle's, the Richland, modified to my specs of posting under 6" inches and adding a #5 NIB instead of the #6. The pen itself, is absolutely, drop dead gorgeous. As it has some of my design elements, I have to give a 10/10...I just love it. The feel in hand is just right all round...light weight and perfect diameter.

 

Fit an finish: I rate also 10/10. The wood and the way Lyle impregnates it are flawless and super shiny. It looks like a jewel!

 

Nib: I ordered and EF...that was no fault of Lyle's, I think he recommended a fine. As I was not sure of JoWo nibs, I went with EF and wound up not liking it. I did replace with a F and it is a marvelous writer now, very smooth and wet, 9/10.

 

Cost/ Value: 10/10. I cannot say what this pen cost only that it was far less than what I expected. I was pleasantly shocked at the cost and what I got for the money paid. This is without doubt one of the sweetest, nicest pens I own...Highly recommended!!!!!!! Photograph's by Lyle Ross.

That's a great review of a beautiful pen. I have 2 pens by Lyle and both are delightful, especially by blue and orange Gallatin 4.

I have the Richland 1 (Green/Black/Grey) as well. I also think the Gallatin 6 - Ladybug is great fun.
