Organics Studio - #1 - Lab Series

Picked up a bottle of ink at Vanness the other day and I'm really loving it. My wife loves it too - so I get to share! :) She doesn't normally like the inks I like. She likes purples a lot, and then green - which is good b/c green is one of my favs.

For this I had inked up a Pilot Parallel and a kit pen made for me by a friend of mine - a local turner named Pete. Really cool guy. The pen was a surprise and a very welcome one - it's quite nice! And I love the magnetic cap. :)

So the ink - wet but not over saturated. On better paper than the laser jet stuff it shows better shading which is nice. On cheap copy paper it's not so hot - a bit of feathering - but on the nicer Norcom comp books, laser printer paper, and then of course Rhodia and CF and all, I'm sure it's fantastic.

Flow - generous. I'm really liking this stuff quite a bit.

Water resistance -wow. 30 seconds under water and the paper looks like it would fall apart before the ink. I dripped some coffee on there too and it did well there as well. A little bit of spread - but not lots. Acceptable to me at least. :) Why just water and coffee? What else am I going to have on a table top? I certainly won't be drinking ammonia, vinegar, bleach, naptha, mineral spirits, or any other weird chemicals, so I could care less how it does there. What about checks? Use a more permanent ink if you're worried about that.

And some pics -

Parker Blue Black (which I also love) and the Organics next to it. :)

Nice review. I really like the color. I have 2 Organics inks now, and one of their pens, and I love all three.

Love how ink looks coming out of the Parker Parallel! Also a huge fan of the less saturated Organics Studios Inks! Work great with flex nibs

Very interesting.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I like the style of your reviews, and in particular this one and the ink being discussed, but I'm not as keen on how they leave me feeling regards the consequential trepidation and the inevitable associated look at my bank account they can cause.

Like life in general, sweet and sour.

Thanks for the taste.

I decided that I have very few vices in a city that revels in vice. Hence, my inky purchases are my budgeted vice. I don't spend the kids milk money on ink so I think I'm still okay.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
