Great review and a fabulous ink. Quite a bit darker in a fine nib; of course. I also have the Akkerman Blue and that makes a nice comparison used in the same letter or whatever. And of course, the bottle is just something else.

Someone suggested that this is the same as Diamine Majestic and in fact, some Akkerman inks are made by the other company. I don't reckon that this is the case.

I am just thinking Majestic Blue! Would you post a side by side if you have both? I adore the lustre and sheen that DMB offers very much.

I haven't had the chance to scan the Akkerman so give me a little while.

I hadn't noticed the green cast at all, I must refill with this soon... Mind you it comes out darker than your scan in the pens I have tried it with. I too bought the bottle for the bottle. I bought a few more different ones because there are many good blues in the Akkerman lineup.

On my monitor it looks much lighter than Majestic Blue but just as lovely.

Seek that which is true, beautiful, and good.

Here is a comparison. Allowing for the variability of ink flow from a glass dip pen, my lack of knowledge about color adjusting equipment, etc, I can only speak to what I see on paper and tried to capture here via a scan.

For my money, there inks are awfully awfully close and could well be the same.

I had to fiddle with that scan quite a bit to get it to look that way. Much of the time my scanner has done a knockout job but this time it had too much subtle stuff to deal with. Shocking Blue is a very chameleon sort of color. I was using a BROAD nib on this, too. I am sure that the color has pthalo blue in it and that is why there is a sway to green in it.

I also just made sure that the best scan I could manage was up. I did two of them and the second one was fiddled with mightily to make it close to the original.

On my monitor your sample looks lighter than my bottle of Shocking Blue. My experience with Shocking Blue is that it is a saturated dark blue with good flow and a red sheen when used in a wet writer. The ink looks much more saturated in a fine nib as compared to a broad nib with similar wetness. I don't see any traces of green in the ink though.

whichwatch's scan is an accurate depiction of the ink on my monitor.

would a close up to show the sheen be possible?

Thanks for the great review.

Finally got a couple of new scans done.

Here's the Akkerman Shocking Blue.

And now the Diamine Majestic Blue.

There is a difference!!!!

Sorry, no close up for sheen...other people have done a great job on that and there are some fine examples of it on this forum. This is a very funny color in that it seems never to be the same twice, that is one reason why I like it so much . The Good Captain's scan is really spot on in that Shocking is so very different in so many situations and with nib/paper combinations. Sometimes it's almost alive with the sheen and sometime it is gone entirely; sometimes it's almost a turquoise and sometimes it's blue-black. So, getting a good scan is a real major achievement. Shades like mad, too. One reason why it's a big favorite of mine is its changeable nature. I never know what it will do.
