INK : DIAMINE GRAPHITE

PAPER : RHODIA #16 A5 white lined

PEN : Onoto Magna 261 Medium nib tweaked for wet flow by John Sorowka (Oxonian).

Scanner : IT8-calibrated Epson V600 flatbed
Colour Space : Adobe RGB
Matte : 50% grey and 100% white
Post-process : Unsharp Mask

Colour Balance : Neutral

WATER RESISTANCE : One thing I wish to point out immediately is that I changed my mind about the water-resistance of this ink between the quick test I did when writing this page and the proper drip and soak test I did afterwards. I found that once dry, Diamine Graphite is significantly water-resistant. A little of the colour lifts but what is left behind is very clearly legible.

DRYING TIME : Fairly long, particularly since I use a nib and feed adjusted for very wet flow. In the order of 30s even on copy paper.

BLEED THROUGH : I saw moderate bleed-through on Pukka 80gsm copy paper and even a little on Rhodia. It was just the odd tiny pinprick showing through but it was visible

Here is a close-up of the swab.

Diamine Graphite does have a greenish tinge in my opinion. This is clearly visible when rinsing any pen parts as the washing water will show a green colour.

And a close-up of the shading.

Shading was only slight as this is a medium-saturation ink.

Water tests were interesting...

The ink was fairly water-resistant and clung to the paper strongly.

This (and Grey) was a surprise to me too. I know Diamine Prussian Blue has a grey component that clings well in soapy water too.

Great review. It's one of the inks I might return to but more from the green viewpoint. Diamine Grey is all the grey I need.

Very nice grey, looks almost black. Thanks for the review

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Thanks for your review Daniel. Just as I was letting some moths out of my wallet to buy Diamine Grey ( I bought a 30ml bottle and loved it), I decided to see what you thought of Graphite, and.... I'm stuck in the paralysis of analysis again.

I've already got MB Oyster, so I think I'm going to go with Graphite as my monthly treat. Oh, and Teal also, because you have already sold me on that.

Must:

i) stop reading your reviews and then dashing off to buy more ink, or

ii) buy another ink shelf.

Anyone on FPN good with shelves?

Nice review as always. There sure are lots of greys out there, but none like this (I think). What I like about it is the slightly green hue.

I think it was well worth paying for the colour calibration sheet for the scanner when I bought it. It always does a very fine job of showing the on-paper colour.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
