This is cool stuff...

I was out a few days before Christmas doing some shopping and checked into one of the seasonal kiosks that dot the malls.

The gentleman there introduced himself and proceeded to give me his spiel on his environmentally friendly, non corrosive, multi-purpose cleaner he has invented and has been marketting for the last ten years. It is only recently that he has decided to offer this to the retail market as most of his business has been commercially based.

He said this cleaner would remove any type of ink and that he sells a lot of it to printers to clean their equipment as well as many other commercial businesses like jewellers and dry cleaners. He said it works really well in ultrasonic cleaners and is perfectly safe to use on all plastics and hard rubber and actually conditions them.

So... I just happened to have my No Nonsense that was filled with Noodler's Eternal Brown with me and told him that if his cleaner would remove it from cloth then I would consider purchasing some.

So I stained a white cloth with the Noodler's brown and gave it half a minute to dry figuring that this would be the stain that he'd never get out. He sprayed a little of this cleaner on the cloth, gave it a little light rubbing and guess what?

The Noodler's vanished. I mean... not a trace remained.

I wrote a few lines on a piece of paper and then sprayed a little of this highly diluted cleaner on the paper and the Noodler's actually started to run and smear a little. It didn't vanish but I haven't seen anything that would cause Noodler's to change one whit on paper.

So, true to my word I bought a small bottle of concentrate and have mixed up a little at a 30:1 and 60:1 concentration so that I can test it here in the shop on some parts pens and broken bits.

I cleaned the cap in that same Noodler's filled No Nonsense by giving it a little squirt of diluted cleaner and then wiped it out with a q-tip. After a quick rinsing with clean water, the next clean dry q-tip did not pick up any trace of any residual ink and a visual inspection shows that the inner cap is as clean as a new whistle.

More tests are required but I am impressed with the results and the fact that it has a D2 goods rating which means that it is not considered a hazardous material.

If all goes well with the testing, I'll probably be finding a way to share it with other folks.

After working with some of the figures I got from the manufacturer, one could produce 6 litres of this amazing ink remover / cleaner for around $5.00 Cdn.

We'll have to see how things go with all the little tests I plan to run using different inks and concentrations and see if there is any reaction with any of the test materials.

Cheers!

I need this stuff. How does it remove ink stains from clothing/fabric? That would be my primary need--ink spots on the front of my sweaters, t-shirts and sweatshirts. Give that a test. Thanks. Lenore

Lenore,

I have this lovely white cotton t-shirt that is going to be dyed with a little ink from each of the pens I am currently using.

We'll see how that goes too.

I wonder what this is going to do to Noodler's permanent advertising. Will it now be mostly permanent

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
