Didn't get a single pen again this year. But I sold one reently so I can go looking for one I want. I did get the complete Black Adder, Thin Blue Line and the extended Return of the King.

Well this wasn't from Santa but an assorted batch of pens off fleabay arrived yesterday. It was a batch of nine pens and pencils that I bought for the two Sheaffers included expecting the rest to be pretty naff. One of them is a pleasant surprise though. It's a "Peter Pan ; twelve sided, green geometric pattern patter and art deco band. It measures 3.5 inches capped. Apart from a small chip in the cap lip it's in really nice condition. :P

Well, also not from Santa, but just as nice - two vials of ink from KC arrived yesterday. PR Copperburst and levenger Cobalt. Mmmmmmmm some beautiful Blue that is. Could just drown in it...

Also got a Lee Valley Sweat Shirt, and a Gift Certificate. Guess my attraction to Lee Valley isn't much of a secret :)

Just finished a beautiful Red Estie 'J' with a 2668 nib (polished and smoothed) for my younger brother (he's becoming FP susceptible - I'm just making sure... ;) )

Some books: Fountain Pens, Past & Present by Paul Erano; The Complete Idiot's Guide to Calligraphy by Jane Eldershaw; The New York Times Guide to Essential Knowledge, some DVDs: Shreck 2; Princess Diaries 2; De-Lovely.

When my arm gets tired of improving my writing (a long and adruous quest. My normal running hand is best described as poor and illegible), and my brain tires of improving its store of knowledge, I can sit back, relax and enjoy some movies.

isn't that a lovely color...

ya know... i'm thinking it may have to go in my VP. I don't have it any other pens right now and I'm missing it. It's just a classy color. Some claim it smears all the time but I think that's largely dependent on not letting it sit too long in a pen without use and the type of paper you use. On the papers I use, it's always been great. In a very fine but wettish line it approaches black but shimmers more so. in a dry pen it's just a very nice, rich blue.

forgot to say - my best gift this season was having my daughter here last week. I've missed her so much and she's growing up so darn fast. Her gift to me was one of two matching necklaces from James Avery (yeah, she can't afford that but...) When she was little and would go stay with her biological father we had matching turtle rings (turquoise inlay.) She wanted to bring that kind of connection back. I thought it was incredibly thoughtful.

no pens from family but neighbour bought me a hand-made pen - very pretty. Lacewood. Of course, my VP was my early gift.

Santa was good to me.

Pelikan Shanghai F - I love it. Some people hate the colour, but it perfectly complements the Athens. :D

Namiki VP F **mine has an aerometric converter though, what's up with that? It came from FPH, and it is skipping some. :(

Visconti Van Gogh Midi in Sandal F - this is a smaller version of the regular size VG, haven't inked it yet, but it is cool looking and has a great clip mechanism. It is a bit heavy. Santa liked this one, so he chose it for me. :P

I'm thinking that later on this evening I'll curl up in my new pyjamas, grab a few brandy beans, fill my new coffee mug with some freshly ground and brewed Columbian and watch Monty Python's "The Life of Brian".

If my feet get chilly I'll put on a pair of my new handmade socks.

I did not receive and pens or ink this Christmas but that is because I don't need any more of either.

I did give quite a few pens away and the boys and the girl are pretty thrilled with their "new" Esterbrook LJ's.

Before I went to bed last night, I looked out at all of the snow that the plough dumped at the foot of our driveway. I really hate shovelling that stuff out. It's so much worse than the normal shovelling. I wished that Santa would stop by and clean it out.

Woke up this morning and looked out the window. Yikes, the snow was gone.

There really is a Santa!

In the spirit of Pay it Forward, I signed up to sponsor a foster child from somewhere in the area of Eastern Europe or Southern Africa. I've always wanted a daughter and now I'm going to get one.

This takes the pressure off my 17 yr old who knows that I want grandchildren.

I've told him that I will wait, thank you very much

I'm so excited. I'll get my first letter and picture in awhile.

Oh, and the following pens should be making their way to me next week.

A Filcao Mandarin Leader from our own DWL. the elusive Waterman red ripple winging its way from Thailand. A Waterman Green Shimmer Carene and a mystery Pilot wooden 14 k pen. I think that I may be a sumgal on this one.

Happy Christmas to all and to all a fond afternoon :)

Just what I'd asked for: A yellow Lamy Safari for my son, and a charcoal Lamy Safari for me. Both with a Fine nib and converters. Inked the yellow with a Blue/Black Skrip ink, and the charcoal with Black Quink. Santa supplied the ink too. Both pens have smooth nibs and I'm very pleased with them. The Blue/Black doesn't have any trouble, but definately is not "wet". The Black flows very easy but no feathering on the paper we used. The paper was simply a little higher grade pad, ecru color, from our local office supply store.

But some post Christmas ordering has been authorized for some Noodler's ink. I'm very excited about trying the Legal Lapis. Up until now I've been using either cartidges in Waterman Black or Havana Brown, and lately a converter filled with Higgins Sepia Calligraphy ink. I love that sepia! Couldn't find a cheaper ink(<$3 a bottle), lays down very wet, but doesn't feather on my cheap journals at work. And the color was exactly what I was looking for. Probably a little reddish for some though..

Anyway, I love the look of a Blue/Black now and am really looking forward to trying the Noodlers. :)

(Also got the extended Lord of the Rings trilogy set! Can't sit through a 1 hour TV show anymore but I'll sit through these.. )

Merry Christmas to all!

I got a new briefcase (leather, flapover, six pen slots, everything I like), a Olympus Stylus Verve Digital Camera, A Robosapien (Radio Controlled Robot), lots of snacks and my wife found all my socks she lost during the last year (over 40 pair) and presented them to me in a bag (which will lead to much marital harmony in the next over 40 days). My dad gave me money again this year (I'm a little old to get a check for Christmas, but I am sure the flow will reverse someday, so I will be grateful and convert it into a present for him... dare I say it......maybe even a pen).

Gifts I gave:

My wife got a Faberge Elephant, a Baccarat Crystal Cat , and a Monteverde Diva BP.

My dad got 26oz of orange marmalade, a video, chocolates and a Retro 1951 Tornado in Brown Leather.

My stepmom got the Special Edition Monteverde Diva Set (which she L-O-V-E-D !!!)

My Stepbrother- in Law got the Waterman Phileas gift set.

My Stepsister got the greatest gift of all : Smoked Salmon!!!!

"Smoked salmon?" you say. "The gretest gift of all?" you question....

Yes, smoked salmon gave me an excuse to keep the Pellikan 400 Honey Gold RB I had originally gotten for her (hey, she loved it. So what if she was the only person not to receive a pen this year.....it was her or me I tell you....HER OR ME ! ! !).

ok.... I have a problem.... but a swear... she loves salmon.

Merry Christmas.

All excellent DVDs!! We have all of them, except for "The Thin Blue Line" (which we have on tape), a great documentary by Errol Morris.

Well, no pens this year from Santa or my husband (remember, he is not into pens) so I went and got myself a nice vintage Sheaffer Imperial VIII cartridge filler (black barrel with gold-plated cap in a lined design) on Ebay :P

What's the drinking age in England?

For such a little island it's actually very complicated, basically you can't buy alcohol (in a baror supermarket) until you're 18. But from the age of 5 (with parent's permission) you may frink whatever you wish on private property.

There are similar laws here. I'm not sure what the minimum age is and it probably isn't "whatever you wish" here. I still didn't appreciate it when my daughter's friend was allowed jello shots at his 17th BD party. (drinking age in TX is 21)

Santa didn't bring me any pens (but I didn't expect any, either). Besides being given some good movies and books (history, mostly), a couple of Lego kits (I rather exceed the 8 year old minimum age :P ), and shirts, I received a couple of bottles of Noodler's Legal Lapis ink in my stocking. I'm working on emptying a pen so I can try it out.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
