Parker 100 nib size

Guest JohanO

I consider buying a Parker 100. I have read on this site that the nibs tend too run rather wide. I prefer the size of a Snorkel fine or Waterman Phileas fine. Should I choose Fine or XF?

Thanks,

Johan

I can not speak for Parker 100, do not have one.

I have other modern Parkes, Sonnet, Frontier and 45. I exchanged all them for XF and they write not thinner than my Phileas, Snorkels and Preludes. I would approximate that 100 will not be different, but owners of 100 could correct me.

I have a Parker 100 with a medium nib. It is a great pen, excellent flow and perfectly smooth, but it writes more like a broad than a medium. I bought the pen with an extra fine nib, but I had problems so I sent it back to Parker for a nib exchange. The XF I had was scratchy, and had too much flow. I like the medium a lot better. To be fair, I bought mine when they first came out, I hear the new F and XF nibs are much better.

Johan, I have a 100 with a M nib. The pen itself is large, warm and comfortable in my hand. I really like it, and I think it is a good quality heir to the Parker 51 legacy. The nib is a very nice smooth nib, but it gushes ink like a water hose. Since I do not like narrower nibs, I am going to send my 100 for a nib exchange to a B, then have it customized to a M italic. That choise is just my personal preference.

Good luck in your quest.

Hey All,

I've also been thinking about one of these considering Pam's awesome price and the Parker rebate. What is the convertor situation like? Piston/Slide/Pump? Is it of good quality. I don't really have any experience with Parker pens.

Thanks!

Ryan

Thanks, all! ;)

Ryan; it is a cartridge and converter pen. The Parker De Luxe converter is quite good! But as an heir to the 51, it could have been equiped with a modern aero-converter!

The converter is a screw type piston. Works nice, however, you must be careful flushing the pen so that it doesn't pee on you......it squirts out 90 degrees to the pen if you are too fast.

The fine nib is closer to that of a medium. Flows like a firehose, but it is a really nice writer.

It is a big heavy pen, however, a lot of weight is in the cap. It's bigger than a 51.

HI

Based on what I read here, I just bought a Parker 100. Nice looking pen. I got a fine nib and the line it produces is clearly a fine. Good flow. and SMOOTH. I was very pleasantly surprised by how smooth the nib was. It ranks up there with my carene and Edson for smoothness. LIke the carene and Edson nibs, the 100 nib is very stiff, so do not expect springyness.

thanks everyone who responded to my earlier questions. I am very happy. JC

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
