Best places to buy reconditioned Parker "51"s?

Hi all, I recently bought my first "51" and really enjoy using it. I'd like to spend a bit more to get a second one with brighter color and a broad or stub nib. I've seen a nice black model with a broad nib here, and some nice nibs here, but would love some additional sources. Thanks for any help.

Amin,

Great minds must think alike! I've been looking around as well for a Parker 51 that has a broad or stub nib, too! I checked out the website that you pointed out on the other thread; they have a lot of 51's in great shape, but I think that my I've used up my pen budget for the month. :D

Oh, well. Maybe sometime soon...anyways, good luck in your search. Let me know what you end up getting.

You've already got two prime sources. In the same position in the market is David Nishimura ( http://www.vintagepens.com ); he also specializes in the top end. His site is wonderful, anyway, whether or not you get a pen there.

There are, of course, lots of other dealers who are a pleasure to buy pens from (Hi! Sam, Hi! Richard), but these three are the most likely I can think of to have something in stock.

There's the Battersea Pen Home in the UK, but British prices scare me (I think it's largely because the pound is overvalued).

Best

Michael

Check around the marketplace here and over at Pentrace on the green board. The last time I bought one I did it on the green board by posting a WTB 51 fine user ad. Got a nice one around $40

British Prices scare me too Michael

You may have to find a pen and then have the nib changed or altered 'amin'

If you want a Vac "51" then look to buy from the US, if you want an Aerometric then look to the UK. Just an observation on where I have had success in buying.

Typical vacs found in the wild will need a service, so factor that cost in whereas a typical Aero can normally be restored with nothing more than a good soaking and flushing in water.

English made pens tend to run broader than the US made "51"s and normally have more of a ball tip so can take more grinding.

Just as an aside, I think that the eBay prices for "51"s is running a bit high, months since I won a bargain there

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
