FS: - Tamron 75-300 mm f/4-5.6 Zoom Lens, Canon Mount

I recently bought my first "L" series lens. For those who are familiar with Canon lenses, you'll know what I mean. If you aren't, think of it as moving up from a Lamy Safari to a Sailor King of Pen (in terms of price - no offense to those countless Lamy fans out there). Anyway, in keeping my with "one in, one out" philosophy, I'm now compelled to sell one lens from my "collection."

What I've got on offer is a Tamron 75-300 mm , f/4-5.6 AF LD macro/zoom lens, with a Canon EOS mount. It takes 62mm filters, and has had a UV or haze filter mounted on the lens at all times. The lens comes complete with a lens hood and front and back lens caps. I don't know if I still have the original box and papers, but it's likely, knowing me. The lens is of course in excellent condition.

Asking $125.00. plus shipping $120 including shipping in the US. I'll ship internationally, too. Email me for a quote.

If I may be sold bold, attached is a link to the Pbase page for this lens.

I feel that this helps people who are not sure of the lens' abilities decide if it is correct for their use.

Good luck with the sale James.

Cheers,

Damn James, you just entered hades with that lens purchase... they're as bad as pens.. Which L did you get? My twin 5D's carry an 85 1.2L and a 24-70 2.8L on most days. I think I'm on L number 6 now. You'll soon follow the path straight to L in a hand basket...

Anyway, just wanted to ask and chime in.. that Tamron lens is a great buy for the money. Nice contrast, Nice sharpness... the 1.6x "crop factor" on most prosumer Canon's gives it a very decent reach. It'll turn your Digital Rebel into a nice bird popper in the back yard.. or get some very decent shots of kids' daytime sports. :-)

Thanks, Dave, that's just what I needed to hear! :headsmack::-) Maybe I should sell the "L" lens before the disease takes hold!

The one I got is a 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM. I wanted something fast so I could take photos of my kids playing soccer. I'm excited about using the new lens. I'm also considering a 2X tele-extender to it to give me a little added range.

The Tamron is a great lens, but a little too slow (f/5.6 fully extended) for shooting indoor soccer. It was great outdoors, though - I was using it to shoot landscapes (I got some beautiful sunset shots at the Grand Canyon!) and my kids' soccer games with a 1.4 tele-extender. Coupled with the 1.6 crop factor, that was like having a 672mm lens! Standing on the sidelines, I was able to get get close enough to photograph the mud between the boys' cleats! Well, not really, but close.

I've had my eye on the 24-70 f.2.8 "L" as well. I figure with that, the 70-200, and my 100mm macro, I'd have a fairly good range. It might be nice to get something really wide to round out the system. In due time, I keep telling myself. In due time. :)

I tried 'L' series glass on my Canon. I thought I'd be OK, that I could give up, just stop when I wanted to. I thought I was strong enough to just get the one.

No.

I am weak.

You cannot go back to glass that doesn't have the red ring.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of nothing at all...

Pah, you silly Canon people, when will you learn. L type lenses, whoop di doo. Try a nice Nikon 80-200 f2.8 and see what you think. Heck I used mine to club a couple of Grizzlies unconscious on the way home from the mailbox this morning.

Just kidding. I ended up shooting Nikon kindof by default, a 30D was too expensive when I wanted to move up and I had a pile of SD cards. Ended up going the D50 Nikon route. I can see the allure of the enthusiast Canon's though, very fast focusing and now with the 40D lots of fps as well. I have always liked the ergonomics of Canon 20D and 30D, but the Rebel was WAY too small for me.

Canon glass is nice, but for some reason the aesthetics of the lenses leave me flat. Why I don't know, but they look cheap to me. Just my opinion, don't roast me. Nikon glass always has a more brick outthouse look to it and the high end stuff is truly amazing. Now that the D300 and D3 will soon be here, I think that they have finally started to get in the game with Canon.

I tried the D3 and immediately fell in love. Too bad they want about $5500 for the body alone and it would render at least one of my lenses useless.

Regardless, the original intent of James' post was to move the Tamron. FWIW I have done some looking and this is a very good deal on a underrated lens. Someone should pick this one up soon. IF I shot Canon it would already be sold.

Cheers,

Sean

Oooops, did I stumble accidentally back into this thread? :-) Just a friendly bump. James, you'll love that 70-200 2.8L IS. Glad you got it. When I'm doing portrait work, I use the 85L "bokehmaster" for very shallow depth of field but the 70-200 is my studio workhorse and definitely my 'main event' lens. And if necessary, you can crack a mugger over the head with it and drive him like a tack straight to china!

Sean, I shot Canon digital originally because it was the only game in town with "full frame". The Ds series are wonderful cameras, no doubt.. but when the 5D came out.. granted, it's not as robustly built, but full frame, just the right resolution for what I do, very lightweight w/o the battery pack.. really, the perfect camera for me. I sold a 1Ds and a 1Ds Mk II and bought 2 5D's. Now, of course, Nikon is entering the game with very fine sensors, but I have way too much invested in Canon mount glass to even think about switching (plus, if anyone thinks L glass is expensive, take a look at the really fast Nikkor lenses.. whoa..) ... I really like the new line if Nikons, but very expensive to switch.

Now, back to the Tamron lens here in question... Yes, it really is a good deal on good glass. I have the baby brother to this lens, the Tamron 28-200, and even with all my L lenses, I use the 28-200 as my walk around lens quite often. The 75-300 has the same construction and glass.. The shots are comparable to my 100-400L (a $1200+ lens) .. and here this deal being available at 1/10 the price. Really, if you don't have a long lens for your Canon... and you want nice shots for a nice price... nail this one down... the price here is less than some filters!!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
