Any Pen From Amazon For 150 Or Less

I'm posing this question as a light-hearted fun discussion starter. I just want to see if anyone mentions some pens I might be missing or find interesting. I was recently given an Amazon gift card and while I could use it for something else, I thought it would be fun to get a pen.

So, if you had $150 to spend on Amazon, what pen would you choose?

Many and Im sure youll get plenty of suggestions.

Right off the bat take your choice from:

- Pilot Custom 74 with several nib options

- Pilot Falcon resin (not metal) with nibs in 4 sizes: extra-fine, fine, medium, or broad

- Platinum 3776 - available on Amazon in fine and medium nibs; there may be some other sizes but I havent seen them

Buying any of these from Amazon will leave you money for ink too.

Be sure to look at when the pen is expected to arrive. I got one Wing Sung 698 on ebay shipped from China. Because I was impatient, I got my first 698 from an amazon seller in two days by amazon prime; it cost $5.50 more than ebay.

I'd probably get another Pelikan M200 EF plus some ink. The Pelikan would not arrive until Sept. 23 to Oct. 3.

Light-hearted, Fun, and on FPN?

I am going to enjoy reading this thread. ;)

Well, as opposed to the kind of threads where someone says "Help me find A, B, & C in a pen"...I don't have a certain list of criteria, other than the price range.

I want to just "browse" people's suggestions in the hopes of finding something that speaks to me that I haven't considered or noticed before. I guess this might be a boring thought experiment for some people, but I like playing the "what if" games....like what if I won the lottery, lol. That's fun to think about, but not realistic. THIS thought experiment will likely end with me buying a new pen!

A good point. Lots of the better deals aren't sold and shipped by Amazon.

Id sell the gift card for $140, then go to endless pens and get a Sailor Pro Gear slim and a bottle of good ink

The gift card is for 100, I was going to add 50 bucks of my own money.

And I will likely *never* do business with Endless Pens again after that last transaction.

A LAMY 2000 is a good deal for right around 150.... or try a LAMY Aion and add some ink, extra nibs, and notebooks. Alternatively if you can find an Esterbook Estie they are very nice too. Don't think you'd be disappointed with any of them.

I already own a Lamy 2000 and love it -- great suggestion. It's funny you mention the Aion. I have been looking at that one pretty seriously since I already have a medium and 1.1 Lamy nib on a couple of Wing Sung 3008's. I could get the Aion in a broad nib and have three nibs that would fit it...

Pens from Platinum and Sailor are being looked at too, as I don't have any pens from either brand. Interested to see other suggestions though...

Pens from Platinum and Sailor are being looked at too, as I don't have any pens from either brand.

I was astounded to see the Platinum #3776 Century "Fujin Raijin" kanazawa-haku pen drop to below US$160 on (and sold by) Amazon US briefly last year — after I bought the pen just a fortnight earlier from it for about US$225!

If you're prepared to wait, Amazon US sometimes come up with surprisingly low prices on some Japanese fountain pens. That's what I'd do if I was sitting on an amount of Amazon store credit with no expiry (or isn't going to expire soon).

If you want to spend it now, and aren't confined to using it only on items sold by Amazon US, then you can pick up a full-sized Sailor Profit21 (aka 1911 Large) or Professional Gear ("Classic", not Slim) with a "large-sized" 21K gold nib for just under US$150.

Note: The 21K nib on the Sailor Profit Standard (aka 1911 Medium) is touted by Sailor as being "medium-sized".

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Good suggestions. I've been wanting a Sailor for quite awhile so I'll look into those. I'll need to research sizes, as something Pelikan M800 size is my preference.

The Amazon credit can be used for any transaction that takes place on the Amazon website. Not sure about the expiration date, but I'll check it later.

Edit: That's a gorgeous Platinum by the way!

Just randomly saw a review of the Diplomat Aero on youtube. Looks pretty nice and it's on Amazon within the budget too.

Ah OK. Thanks for clarifying. I interpreted your post as a humorous/cynical comment, lol.

Nop

When I try to convey humor and fun, I use :lticaptd:

When I attempt to be cynical, I usually fail, but I would have picked something like  , or something else more cynical (Note to self: find a good cynical emoticon) .

As I dont do cynical well, I pefer to have some humor, coz there is so much sh** that life throws at you, and none of us really need to freakin compund our share in here.

In that specific post I used the "wink", ;) which I thought, meant we are so Fonzi cool and so on and so forth, and we will have such an amazing thread spending your money on Amazon and such.

I would get as many inks as I could :/... I like fountain pens for the ink and the pen is secondary to my ink enjoyment.

Faber-Castell Ondoro Smoked Oak.

Or

Kaweco Dia 2 in black and gold (or chrome if you like it).

Every time I see a review of a Faber Castell or a GvFC, they seem to mention how smooth and well tuned the nib is. I'll research this suggestion, thank you.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
