Hi, Folks!

This is a Parker Duofold Lady in Black Tipped Lacquer Red Permanite celluloid c. 1928. This 4 17/32 inch long button filling fountain pen was the clip version of the Duofold Lady, shown in the 1928 catalog with no clip and a ring top. The pen features three cap bands, new for 1928 and the year before the line was streamlined, making this a single year model. The barrel is stamped GEO. S. PARKER Lady DUOFOLD FOUNTAIN PEN over JANESVILLE, WIS., the Lucky Curve banner, U.S.A. PAT. 4-25-11. This example has a firm gold nib stamped PARKER over DUOFOLD over PEN over P. The trim is gold filled.

I only have 2 pens from this era, a badly discolored Jade which I bought because it had a nice early box and a Duofold Special.

I like the size of the Special. The two pens with the double thin cap bands in my picture are Specials.

Hi, Everyone,

These are mine, a band-less large imprint in red and black HR. The Lucky Curve Mottled Green "available in a larger size" with a LC nib and the matching "Parker" pencil. The pearl pen has the fourth wide cap band at the clip, those usually don't survive, and the barrel is actually lighter than the cap. And the chased black in the center. The red and black pencils are hard rubber and the pearl pencil still has the price sticker on the cap. Oh, there are no sacs in any of the pens so they won't discolor!
fpn_1558229162__100_1710.jpg

#2 is a Vac, but it has a two-tone nib, #3 is a Zaner Bloser, #4 is a Streamline Special Pencil in Sea Green Pearl, the rest are normal

fpn_1558229182__100_1711.jpg

The last four are a Black Combo, a "Duofold JL" (pre Special) Flattop, and the red & black Spoon Clip Duofold Pencils (pre Big Bro). If you have every wondered why the Flattop Senior pencils are marked "Big Bro" these are the reason. They are just a tad small up against a Flattop Senior.

fpn_1558229204__100_1712.jpg

I also have a 1926 set that I actually use.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
