Welcome To The Broad Side...

My widest nib is a guessed OBBB 30 degree maxi-semi-flex Pelikan 500 a pure signature pen.

I really don't know what a 1.5 is of my Lamy Joy that occasionally I'll pretend I'm writing caligraphy.

To go with a couple Osmia semi/maxi OBB's, one a half a size narrower than the other so would be a OB1/2, I added last month a pre'97 600 and a 1005 both regular flex, in OBB.

I was wondering if anyone stubbed their regular flex 1000.

I'd hoped for semi-flex in the 1000, but other folks were right it comes in both regular flex and semi-flex. I had tested a 1000 vs another semi-flex in my B&M.

I was very surprised how fast I got use to the 1005, it's not as clunky as I remembered.

So a W.Germany 800 goes onto the list.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

GP - you just get the nib as a stand alone. They are Jowo#6 nibs so they fit many pens. You have to be careful that cap will fit the multi stack nibs due to their height, and you should pick a pen you can use as an eyedropper, but that's it. I have my nib in a custom Japanese ebonite pen. The nib and body are 150MM in length and 180MM when posted.

Here is a nib that is both broad and quite large so it lays down a decently wide line. It is from a limited run of pens in 1999. Apparently not all pens in the run were made and there were spare nibs. I picked one up a while ago and recently had a custom pen built around it. (More to come on that pen separately.) Since it is an unusual nib, I wanted to share it here. It is similar to a vintage Waterman #12, a Bexley #12 or a Namiki #50 nib is scale.

It currently has feedback reminiscent of a vintage nib which is a good match for the rest of the pen where it now lives.

Here is a comparison shot next to a Sailor KOP nib I had on my desk today.

If you're looking for real ink-guzzlers on the -even more than BB or BBB- exotic side, you can try calligraphy italics of 1.9 mm or 2.3 mm in width. BB is around 1.2 mm and BBB around 1.4.

I have some of those and I do love how they consume ink. Though the Pineider stub I have is an ink consumer.

It seems like the slit wasn't tapered enough, so F-C had me spread the wings a bit to force the taper and now it seems to be OK! Yay! I wonder if my Pelikan is having the same issue...

Dear kfoss

excuse my ignorance but we all learn from each other - me more than most

what exactly do you mean by "not tapered enough"???

Enjoy your pens

Have a nice day

I recall it being the equivalent of 6B. I think MB makes up to 8B now in the bespoke program.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
