Zenith-2 - Polish Or Czechoslovakian?

For my 1st post I present my latest FP: a black Zenith-2 (a Parker-51 lookalike.)

The seller listed the pen, which came with a lovely 2-pen case, as being made in Czechoslovakia.

However, other internet pages indicate that Zenith pens were made in the PRL i.e. Poland under Soviet rule. Does anyone here have an opinion as to where they think this lovely little pen was made?

Made in Poland.Zenith was made by Częstochowskie Zakłady Materiałów Biurowych ZENITH, their predecessor was known pre-war pen maker "Omega".After WW2 it was nationalized (stolen) by communists and renamed to CZMB.

I think it used Chinese instruments.

China sold instruments for manufacturing model 100, 581, 215 to Poland during 1961-1962.

This Zenith looks like "581" Hero.

And the Bar is “215” Lucky/Xingfu style(after 1957).

"100" Hero and "581"Hero are P51 style.

"215" is Sheaffer Triumph-like nib

So made in Poland with Chinese machines, still means made in Poland?

Yes.

The four earliest Chinese Fountain Pen Makers used Japanese or American machines, their products still mean made in China.

Besides Poland, Vietnam and DPRK also used Chinese machines.

And If the relation ship between China and Cuba did not go bad in 1960s, there would be P51-like iridium tipped fountain pen made in Cuba with Chinese machines.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
