The Mission: Writing All My Inked Up Pens Dry And Start Over ;)

Ruth: Some on my list here have been refilled, because I use them for sketching or because I wanted to try another ink in it.

So it was fun to get the numbers up, but it'll be fun to get them down as well, as I'm still expecting another pen in the mail and I have pens, I haven't tried out yet or want to use them again. So enjoy the wait ;)

    5

Right now I have 5 inked (Waterman Carene, 3 Esterbrooks, Schaeffer Imperial), and I'm waiting on five new pens. (Jinhaos) I also have six vintage pens in my drawer that need sac replacements before I ink them.

I only have four inks: Lamu Blue, J Herbin Perle Noir (black), J Herbin Terre de Feu (red-brown), and J Herbin Vert Empire (dk green), but I made a list of 5 colors I'd love to add.

My dilemma: my pen tray only holds four pens.

I think I'm going to need to start a rotation of pens and inks, but maybe limit myself to four inked at a time.

We'll see how that goes.

That's cool PAKMAN. How do you like the old man winter ink?

Love it, looks silver on the paper!

tjchervy: I have to build a tray as well :D And then probably another one.

PAKMAN: That sounds tempting.

Currently, I'm sketching quite a lot, but no pen is empty yet.

Breaking up old structures here. Yu can se the remainings of the old sketch still showing through.

You have a notebook where the first sketch is meh and then the second, the third, more rubbish, ...?

That's EXACTLY the case with this nice small one here.

But I can bring it back with each sketch!

Already blew it.

I have 7 inked. I received a new nib yesterday and just had to try it out. Though the new pen that came yesterday is my case, but it's first in line for when I pull the next pen out. Problem is, I have four pens that need to written dry (unless I cheat and empty a couple).

Seven is not so bad. It took me 10 more days to empty another one.

Also I have acquired three new pens and another on is in the mail, however, I try to hold back atm.

The new ones were dip-tested and the remaining ones were kept in rotation, I did'nt focus on a particular model.

Fourteen. Yikes.

But as of last night, the Kullock 45 and a 78G got cleaned, so it's down to twelve. I blame it on my ink-tention deficit disorder. Also buying new pens that had to be tested.

So now there's three Sailors with differing nibs, a 3776 Bourgogne that is always inked, a couple Hero 616s, an Estie J, an Osmiroid that is pretty much always inked, and a Carene. Wow, the numbers don't add up. I must be overlooking a pen or three.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I think the last bunch here will last a little longer: three TWSBIs and one Preppy remaining, however fewer to rotate.

I have quite a few pen ink combinations, I'd like t try and a few pens that I have not inked yet. I'm waiting for a Delta and a Bexley Prometheus and some Sailor Doyou.

another finished sketch, a combination of ink an crayons, the Moleskine does apparently not like them.

Anyway, finished, not perfect :D

Let me open up by saying that I love your sketches! I would love to see more of them.

On topic: I do this all the time. I end up inking too many pens and then struggle to use up all the ink in them. I usually doodle on a page while watching something on the computer and I sometimes start copying random pages from a book or from Wikipedia. I wish I had your drawing chops though.

Sailor Kenshin: Thank you very much. Very much appreciated.

canibanoglu: Thank you. The sketches are meant to show, what I do with my pens, besides writing.

Not to show off btw. And think this is a nice addition/ info.

The writing part mostly consists of practicing Japanese, not unlike your book/ Wiki copying.

I also write letters, notes and to-do lists. But not very much journaling.

To make this a bit more personal, here am I going through my crayons, looking tired, because I probably am.

Btw.: You can go to this subforum on here and chances are good, you're getting a letter from me:

I might include a sketch :)

I just make sure that each one has some distinct characteristic so i can convince myself I need all of them... I currently have 6 inked: metro with noodler's black, noodler's creeper with J. Herbin Caroube de Chypre, Jinhao x450 with Zebra G nib and Diamine Syrah, and two eyedropper-converted preppies with diamine eau de nil and ancient copper. All different enough colors so i don't feel too bad!

Nohivo, queerspaceman: Yes, that's what I'm planning also. Trying out some models, I haven't used for a while and the same goes for the ink.

I'm audacious enough to fill the TWSBI ECO with Iroshizuko chiku-rin!

Also, I'd like to tune my inks more suitable/ matching for fall.

I have an upcoming commission for a Din A3 sketch, so I will ink a few pens with the same ink so I can have broader and finer strokes.

Despite all efforts, I cannot report a new empty pen yet, but three most likely empty ones, lol.

Looks like you're trying to empty them.

I emptied two yesterday. I decided to have five in my rotation, and I had two spares in the drawer. I emptied one of my Jinhao 250s (black ink) and pulled an Esterbrook with black ink from the drawer. Wrote two sentences and it was empty. Now I have no pens with black ink. Guess it was time to put ink into a new pen (new to me, anyway).

Here's my plan: have five pens inked at all times - one with black, one with blue, and other colors for the other three. As I empty a pen, I'll pull the next one out of the case and ink it up. I really need one more ink to make this work well. As I have grey, reddish brown, red, and two greens, I'm thinking a purple? I'm open to suggestions

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
