C.e. Levi Nox - Beautiful And Reliable

I’ve been interested in getting a C.E. Levi pen ever since the original reviews for them started popping up a few years ago. In my opinion, they are some of the most unique looking pens out there and I really liked the idea of a custom pen.

The ordering process was simple. I sent my first email to Cameron (the pen maker) in mid November 2014. After asking some questions, he helped me decide on a Nox in black ebonite with a Sheaffer Feathertouch nib. I requested a fine nib (on the broader side of fine) and asked for a particular section shape. My order was officially placed a week later and I was added to Cameron’s pen queue.

The wait was quite long, but this was expected. I received the pen about 6 months later in late May 2015. My initial reaction to the pen was extremely positive (and remains so). In my eyes the pen is stunning. It’s design is very unique: modern and minimal, yet elegant. The quality and construction couldn’t be better. All surfaces are finished to perfection and the pen just feels solid. I’m very happy with the appearance of the pen.

Cameron goes through a pretty extensive nib tuning process and it really shows. As I requested, the nib writes smooth and relatively wet. Most importantly it is reliable and writes with no fuss every time it touches paper.

I’m a big fan of pens that fill with ink bladders, so I was excited that the Nox is a button filler. It’s incredible simple to use and very well constructed. The ink capacity is quite impressive as well and I don’t have to worry about filling too often.

The only point about the pen that I can even think about criticizing is the step down from the section to the barrel. It’s really not a big step, but it felt a little awkward when I first wrote with it. After using it for a few days, my fingers adjusted and found a comfortable position. I now find it very comfortable to use for for long and short writing sessions.

I’ve been using the Nox daily for over 6 months now and I absolutely love it. Its unique appearance, perfectly tuned nib and reliable filling system create a wonderful pen that I look forward to writing with every day.
