Sailor (Onago-Iro Days) Odekake, Or About To Leave

This is Odekake, from Sailor's Onago-iro Days line.

Odekake seems to mean "about to leave". From the Japanese description I think it refers the colour of jeans that you put on when you are about to go out. It's hard to understand anyway. Let's get to the ink.

Splash

It has heavy sheen. The photo is a better representation of the ink colour than the scan.

It's not dry. But it's not as wet as I expected. I remember that some fellow FPNers say it's a wet ink. Maybe it's my pen, a Pilot 742 FA, which is picky about inks.

Thanks for the review!

That sheen is amazing! It's like a darker version of Sky High.

So many inks, so little time...

Terrific review, thanks!

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

The shading + sheen combo are amazing!

+1

This is my go to light blue and one of my favorite inks!

Ps Great review as always :) and I think you are right; this ink is definitely on the drier side for Sailor which when combined with the high sheen can lead to hard starts in certain pens over time. I've had the best luck using it in vintage flexi nibs where the already intense sheen becomes even more dramatic and the ability to increase ink flow by adding slight pressure to the nib compensates for the dry out!

Unfortunately since I doubt I'll ever be able to get my hands on this ink, does anyone have any suggestions for lookalikes? It looks similar to Souten in your swabs, but you mentioned that it's not as green as Souten.

My favorite blue was Sky High. I still have a partial bottle of it. I did get About To Leave and I guess I should give it another try. I must still be in mourning for Sky High.

OOOOH! Pretty!

But do I really need another bright blue? When I'm already waffling over both Souten and Diamine Blue Velvet?

:gaah:

Well, I guess this is going onto the "to order" spreadsheet -- but without indicating any sort of "Must... Have... NOW!" timeframe....

I have got to stop reading your reviews, they are so gorgeous that they make me run out and buy the inks you review.
