Replace Duofold Centennial Nib

Are you able to replace the nib on a Duofold Centennial without replacing the entire section? I had searched and was unable to find an answer.

Well, my Centennials all come apart and I can't see differences in the feeds, although there may be. So the trick would be finding someone with nibs.

No I was looking at buying one used on eBay. But the nib isn't the size I would prefer. Didn't want to spend more on a new section then the whole pen would cost.

Yes they will fit, but to be honest there's no real saving going for the nib only over section/nib/feed...

Never saw a really good deal for nib only duofold cost wise.

I have removed the nib on my Centennial, and I imagine a JoWo/Bock #6 would fit. However Parker don't sell the nib separately, so I think it a vanishingly small probability that you'll find a Parker nib.

Yes.

 

I have seen at nibsdotcom {J. mottishaw} new {heart} Duofold nibs both sizes {Cent & Inter} with section for sale.

 

For your consideration..over at the Lott's {FiveStarPens}..currently they have loose Duofold Arrow

International nibs {at $80usd each}..drop them a line and perhaps they may have Centennial nibs or

will have..Cost nothin' to ask...

Do you plan on putting any in a modern Duofold?

Are the 'Flexible nibs real flex or is it the typical ersatz Noodler's flex.

Parker Duofold nibs have a rectangle cut out that matches a raised part of the feed so a generic nib won't fit well unless you are willing to file down the feed. Not sure you would want that.

^indeed. i've put modern duofold nibs in other pens (my micarta, for one), but i doubt it'll work the other way around. i've upgraded the micarta, but please don't downgrade a duofold centennial with a cheap steel nib. do the right thing and get a proper centennial nib or nib assembly.

Glad you wrote that - I was about to. The nibs and feeds pull straight out and aren't especially tight, so it's easy to do. The square cutout on the nib does indeed fit over a corresponding raised point on the feed, the intent being to hold the nib in position, keeping it from shifting while avoiding having to have a very tight fit in the section. You do not want to file this off.

 

The feeds, not the nibs are marked with the nib size, and there are unmarked feeds out there. I wouldn't hesitate to have the nib ground down if the one you get is too wide for you. Note that you do see Parker Duofold Centennial and International nibs only for sale on eBay from time to time.

I have had to do just that on all my Centennial and International Duofolds. As well, the Centennials needed the nib feeds adjusted as they were way too dry. The factory feed worked just fine each time.
