Montblanc No. 22 - Piston Screw / End Knob Damaged - Help?

Hello there!
Recently my montblanc no. 22, which I used regularly for years, got damaged while refilling ink:
The piston screw, which normally should be fixed to the end-knob, suddenly came loose. It remained still attached to the knob but can now be turned freely!
No matter if the knob is opend or screwed tight, the piston can't be moved anymore, because the screw lost its fixation at the knob.

Maybe someone can kindly support me with a spare part or still functional leftover part of this end knob with the pistonscrew attached to it (for the montblanc model no. 22)?

Just to be clear

 

The worm screw is still attached to the knob but now spins freely, so not winding the piston up and down, is that correct.

It is exactly as you describe it.

The images attached who the damaged state as it is now. I guess it looks the same as it was all working fine.

I think normally this worm screw is supposed to be slightly movable (for about half a turn of the knob), for unknown reason. Could be, it is to prevent the piston from starting to press ink out when just starting to turn the knob (some kind of "security feature").

The problem is now (which can't be seen on the images), as you point it out clearly, that the knob allows the worm screw to spin completely free!

PS: Besides the knob/worm screw part seems to be crapped anyway: does someone know how to detach the worm screw from the knob?

I have no clue how to deal with that.

Just found out that the little Montblanc-logo (white 6-edged star) at the rear end of the knob can be pushed in a little.

If the attachment is the same as on their 146 & 149 then the worm screw is held in place by a spring clip that is unfortunately almost impossible to get out, this might one of those times when its better to send it out for repair rather than trying to fix it yourself.

 

the only option I know of for replacement worm screws is http://www.custompenparts.co.uk/mont-blanc/73-helix-rod-for-piston-filler.html but they are for the 146/149 so will probably not fot the 22 even though they do look to be the same.

 

Try Francis (fountainbel) on this forum he will be able to fix it for you. I don't think Montblanc do repairs on these pens any more so they are not going to be an option for you.

I've gotten this far:

 

the little black fleck is the piece of plastic that is supposed to engage with the tooth built into the star piece. I'm thinking of using Weld-on for acrylic to fix it, will that work for this plastic?

Hello there!

 

I just want to say THANK YOU to all of you who replied to my request offering so much knowledge and good advice!

 

In the meanwhile I was able to receive a damaged MB no. 22 from ebay (the barrel was cracked on this one) and extracted the piston mechanism (knob and piston-rod).

I just assembled all parts this evening.

The piston-mechanism needed an second and also a third try to get it set in the right distance (first the knob didn't reach the barrel leaving a gap in between, at the second try the piston didn't go all the way forward).

Finally I got my beloved Montblanc no.22 back at 100% functionality!

Well done, glad you fixed it, the 22 is such a nice pen to use as well. especially as nowadays many people only know Montblanc for their premium pens so you can impress the uneducated with a pen that was made and sold to compete with the Parker 51
