Sheaffer Legacy Heritage Nib Problems

Recommended Posts

I bought a new nib unit for my Legacy Heritage recently. I've consistently had problems with the nib drying out and stopping after writing a paragraph or so. I've tried multiple inks, rinsed with a drop of dish soap in water, and tried a different converter -- all without any improvement.

Before I try to see if I can get Sheaffer to look at it as part of a warranty repair (I'm assuming nib units have warranties?) can anyone provide any suggestions that might get this pen running the way it should, and avoiding the hassle of sending it in?

Thanks!

Two questions: Are you having problems with the new nib or the one that came with the pen? Is ink filling the convertor or is it being difficult?

If the answer to the first is yes then you need to contact the seller... no then you may have to return the original nib to Sheaffer.

I have a Targa stub nib that won't fill properly and will dry out. There seems to be a blockage in the feed tube. Your Legacy has a similar style inlaid nib. These are difficult to take apart and repair best left to a pro. Check the alignment of the tines which may impede ink flow.

There could be some contamination on the feed, or it could be a bad nib. If new from Sheaffer or an authorized dealer and the gold size stamp is on it I would expect it to be covered by warranty. Or you can send it to a pen mechanic to see if they can clean it for you. I have a solution that i use that works when others will not.

Targa nibs can be taken apart and serviced. I do it quite often. Legacy nibs OTOH can not be taken apart. I had a chat with Sheaffer engineer about this. I was told that they are glued together, and your chances of gettig it apart without crackig or breaking it are slim to none.

Thanks, guys. It was a new nib unit replacing one that had an unfortunate run in with my desk. It still has the M inprint on it. I've contacted Stylo.ca to find out how they'd like it dealt with.

Definitely won't be trying to take it apart!
