I am hoping to find a pen club in or around Reno, NV. I jut relocated to the area, and I know that there are some collectors around because the antique shops are picked over!

Greetings,

I lived in Reno from 6-89 to 8-92 way way before I started pen collecting. What i can tell you is the city bus service is great. A person can get around the Reno/Sparks area with great ease. When I first moved to Reno the first thing I did was buy a city map and went to the RTC [ Regional Transportation Commission ]

on 4th street downtown, bought a monthly bus pass and grab 1 copy of each bus route map. Enjoy your time there and enjoy the hunt for pens. Plenty of things to do, I was too busy working full time and going back to school four nights a week for two years at 28 to have to much fun. Enjoy.

Thanks for the advice Jotter!

This is also one of the more bike-able towns I have lived in in a long time. I ride by that bus station every day on my way to the University, catty corner to Louis! Lots of great people, lots of things to do, and, I hope, some other pen enthusiasts!

Hello there,

I am new to FPN and fairly new to FP.

Was wondering if there are more locals around here.

I'm in Carson City. Has anyone called the pen shop in Reno to ask if there is a club?

Yes, Oakman's. I've never visited the store and don't know anything about it.

I swung by there the other day, but they are only open during the week.

If people would like to meet up and discuss pens/writing etc, I would be excited, that would make 3 of us in the RTC area!

Let's make this happen, perhaps at a local bar or coffee bar depending on who would like to join. I am partial to the hub or maybe bibo on record if we are talking coffee, or one of the midtown establishments if we are talking something with a little more EtOh.

Wish I could be there. Next time I'm in Reno or Carson, I'll send you all a message.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

What is the update on you all starting a pen club? Curious ?

It would be interesting to see what you all come up with.

Hey guys! I am moving up here to Reno in the fall for school and I just stopped by oakmans unable to find it. I called their number and it was disconnected. Are they out of business?

Oakmans closed back in april (I think).

They had a great sale but it was sad to see it close.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
