Critical info here...

Made in Germany

Finest Munken paper.

The flyleaves are blue - which matches the sketches mono-printed in blue too on a grey background...

The notebook is stitched - not glued.

Stitching allows the book to open flat.

But here you can see there is resistance to staying flat open, and I am not surprised.

This is due to the semi flexible (or semi-stiff) cover material that is glued to the bookblock.

The material is making the book close up - not the stitching.

You have to hold it down to keep it flat open.

Not a big problem.

The writing paper inside is white.

and printed with very light grey dots.

This is excellent.

I am a firm believer in the usefulness of dotted grids and fully agree with the writeup that champions the functionality of dot grids.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/Stationery%20Paraphernalia/NUUNA%20Notebooks/A6%20-%20Dont%20Forget%20to%20Play%20-%20Blue%20-%20Notebook%20Graphic/DSCF8120.jpg

The dots are in 3.5mm grids.

I have never used grids that small before.

But here, I do not find this any problem at all.

And now for my usual format of the ink test .... :)

I do this for practically all of the journals I purchase.

It gives me a good idea of what pens or inks , or watercolour that I can use.

I tried out all my pens that are in rotation.

Some inks are the same but in different pens , ie, different nibs ...

(some nibs fare better on any given paper, possibly due to a combination of factors like dryness, fine-ness, ink formula)

and now for my usual sketch test with children's watercolours

I always do this test with :

NOODLER'S Black

and

watercolour or acrylic paint.

Here the pats of paint are acrylic made in Germany , but I have forgotten what brand , most likely 'Herlitz' .

I do this so that I know how well the paper takes wetness.

Closer view ...

Takes wetness pretty well, even tho I brushed a few times over the same place.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/Stationery%20Paraphernalia/NUUNA%20Notebooks/A6%20-%20Dont%20Forget%20to%20Play%20-%20Blue%20-%20Notebook%20Graphic/DSCF8218.jpg

another view

The paper warps due to the intentional wetness.

And this is to be expected.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/Stationery%20Paraphernalia/NUUNA%20Notebooks/A6%20-%20Dont%20Forget%20to%20Play%20-%20Blue%20-%20Notebook%20Graphic/DSCF8219.jpg

The paper is 120gsm Munken paper.

(I am not familiar with Munken paper )

On the whole,

NIBS

I notice that the paper doesnt take too well to very wet nibs

see first page

STIPULA

and

PELIKAN M400 Honey Tortoise

There is noticeable bleedthru.

Dry nibs fare well, whether broad or fine.

see BEXLEY Cracked Ice FPN edition <stubbed B TWSBI nib by pb2 >

Other than that ,

Fine nibs also fare well, (just like original poster above) since generally they are dryer becos theres less ink coming from them.

BUT

even when these Fine nibs are wet , they still perform better.

see

PILOT Elabo at bottom of page

and

PARKER Duofold Centennial SE Mandarin Orange <F> filled with same ink as the very wet STIPULA and PELIKAN M400

INKS

NOODLERS Black ink is fantastically well behaved., and waterproof to boot

Light coloured inks fare well.

see SAILOR Jentle Apricot,

and Blue inks.

COST

I paid SGD$28.80.

ps. I also purchased an A5 size NUUNA journal but with 90g Munken paper.

As expected the thinner paper doesnt stand up as well to the same test.

will post later .

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
