Moleskine Hobbit Notebooks

I just found images of these new limited edition notebooks released by Moleskine. Check out the link below:

Moleskine Hobbit Notebooks

Although I have issues with inconsistent paper quality from Moleskine, the covers on these journals look amazing. I might have to get a couple after all.

I WILL find a pen and ink combo that works for these. Love Tolkien books, so getting one would be worth any extra hassle.

Maybe F and XF nibs? And non-saturated ink?

Nice timing on these, I;m reading lord of the rings now(AMAZING what was left out of the movies!) And plan to go back and read the hobbit next. I've been copying out all the songs and poems as I go into a journal, with fountain pens of course! Should get one of these for doing that...

I don't see these available anywhere in the US yet. Anyone else?

If it helps: I use Noodlers X-Feather on a daily basis in a lot of Moleskines without problems. (After trying ANY other ink I could try without success.)

dear god, why did it have to be moleskin =_= haha just griping. I think I am going to steer clear of all this Hobbit stuff. The movie has been building up on itself for so very long, I am just over it. I'll still probably see it at the cinema (apparently its being shown at a new frame rate, I just want to see if i throw up while watching it), but I am not one for movie merchandise.

Agree - moleskin - it's Latin for toilet paper.

I've found that Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black; Lamy Blue-Black and R&K Salix are the best Moleskine inks I've got.

As for these ones in particular; I won't be purchasing as I've enough similar-sized ones piled up just awaiting their turn.

They look interesting but have not seen them at my local chapter store as yet.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

Very pricey for a moleskine.

Yes I agree with you about the price. Unfortunately that is the ridiculous price we are forced to pay for Moleskine products over here in Australia.

I bought a couple of the Lego Moleskine journals and it was almost half the price to buy them from Amazon and pay for shipping. Go figure.

I was hoping Amazon would carry them but it looks like they briefly had preorders and then those vanished. I managed to score two of them early at a local bookstore who had no idea when they were supposed to go on sale (picture at link below) and REALLY like the covers on these.

+1 on the R&K Salix. I just tried Salix for the first time on Moleskine journals and can confirm that it performs beautifully -- without any bleeding or feathering -- all the more impressive considering I use wet italic nibs.

Sorry to hear that but I figured it had to be something like that. What shocked me was converting the cost on the website from AUS dollars to American dollars and the price shot up from ridiculous to "No way in H3LL" for me. Maybe Amazon will get some at realistic prices as we get closer to the movies release.

The chance to record my notes and ramblings in a Hobbit notebook...like Bilbo and Frodo? Oh yes. Ordered 3...now all I need is a Montegrappa Smaug The Magnificent dragon fountain pen that has opening wings when I take the cap off

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
