Hey Fpn; Seeking Some Answers About Ancora 72

Recommended Posts

This is a Ancora 72. In its current form it is supposedly a button filler. But the one detail that has been troubling me is its transparent spiral barrel. Typically button fillers barrels are not transparent unless its some kind of demo model. I wonder if someone salvaged the pen and made it into a button filler. Perhaps in its original form it had some other filling system (vacumatic?)

This is not a major issue but knowing the facts always makes one feel better. Any information on this is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Is barrel marked Ancora?

Vintage Ancora with transparent barrel were marked "ANCORA MAXIMA" 72 means a medium size,

filling system was like Whal Doric second model style, (plunger filler if well remeber english name)

but were often found transformed as button filler like your.

Andrea (Ambros) got all the answers.

Do you have vintage AURORA or WILLIAMSON,

italian WWII militaria for sale or trade? Please contact me.

Looking for 1950'S AURORA 88?

Other vintage italian pens?

Hi Vik,

your pen is a beautiful Ancora Maxima 72 (medium size),

but button filler is not correct for this model,

Sanpei is right, this pen needs a plunger filler...

These are Maxima 72 like your pen.

If you want, in Italy is possible to repair your pen,

but i think it is an expensive job...

Here the differences between an Ancora number 4

and an Ancora Maxima number 74;

The same big size, but a different filler,

and the 74 barrel has a beautiful transparence..

notworthy1.gif Thank you all. I really missed seeing beautiful Italian vintage pens for a while....

Yes, my pen bears the Ancora logo on the barrel. The overall body seems to be original except the damn filler headsmack.gif

These pens provide me as much pleasure as they did when you posted it in one of your earlier threads.

I understand it will be expensive restoring it to the original filler; can you provide a estimate?

I dont know if Sanpei makes those jobs;

This is an Ancora DaMa oversize (a faceted model) of mine,

the restoration was made by Erminio Murrau in Torino,

a new metallic plunger replaces the original plastic plunger,

but was very expensive: 300 USD........

That is a fantastic pen and deserved every bit to be restored as such. Thanks again.

I think this will be a parts pen for me then sad.gif

No, Vik,

your Ancora is a beautiful pen, and not a parts pen! ;)

Today it is normal to find a Maxima button filler,

and is rare to find it in the original way,

because plunger filler was very breakable...... :bonk:

....here a rare blue ringed Maxima 74.

Thanks for the encouragement; I may have a little something planned for my Ancora. Lets see how far I get with my idea.

You could PM Fountainbel and see if he has the time. He is very busy with his new self-produced BulkFiller, but I think he will be able to repair it, especially if replacement parts have to be made.

Just wanted to let you know that I have the restored pen in my possession and just love it.

Customary pictures showing the Ancora 72 with a brother from another mother, a Omas Extra.

The suction is quite strong and the swoosh sound while charging the pen is quite pleasing. I am very happy with Francis's work and while his prowess is well known he gets my recommendation nonetheless.

A side bar for the Ancora experts - How does one decode the model number, in particular how does it relates to the nib size? It has a Ancora #3 nib. The feed seems correct compared to my other Ancora, I am unsure about the nib as it is a bit loose. It can be an enlarged section bore but just want to be sure.

Thanks again.
