Lamy Studio Cap Won't Click On Any More

I just bought a Lamy Studio and was breaking it in when I tried to put the cap back on it and the darned thing won't click and stay on any more. The cap just refuses to engage. I can't see what the problem is. Has anyone else had this happen? Do you know what the cure is? Thanks.

Send it back to Lamy for a new cap. It's probably not something you could easily fix w/o replacement parts anyway.

Good luck! And Lamy service is great.

Here's the Lamy guy you want to get a hold of.

Mine was like that too for a brief while (a day or two) after a little intense use. I also thought mine was broken, but let it sit for a few days, picked up the pen, and then, noticed that everything was normal again... I really don't know what happened. Maybe something with heat/cold expansion/contraction?! O_o

Ohhh, I suspect that ring came off like the Goulet video. Let me see if that is it. I will let you know. I just remember looking at a big black section of the front end of the pen without the ring, come to think of it, and not thinking of it. Oh, and thank you watch_art, I will probably be sending it back because that looks like something which will happen again.

Thanks, everyone. I did find the ring and put it back. The pen works well now in that department. It is also skipping again. Darn, I may have gotten a lemon. Too bad because when Lamys are on, they are spectacular.

So, I am going to do the usual things to help skipping to see if I can bring it back into the fold of the good Lamys. I filled it will Blue American Eel, and will be squeezing out a couple of drops of ink to be sure that there is no vacuum. Then look at the nib under the loup to see if I can see any obvious problems. Look for other skipping fixes here on FPN and if the problem persists I will have two problems to talk to Bob Nurin about and if I can fix the skipping, I will only talk to him about one (permanently fixing the ring to the front end of the pen...if it came off once I bet it can come off again).

But again thank you. Oh, and thanks (as always) to the Goulets for doing great videos on small but vexing problems and their solutions. I learn something great from those guys every day.

You might be able to put a few drops of Loctite on the threads under the ring. It could secure the ring well enough to not loosen itself during normal use.

I just bought the stainless steel version, and my problem is not with the trim ring but with the blind cap. Every time I take the cap off, the blind cap stays on the pen. I have tried pushing the blind cap back into the metal cap with a pencil (eraser end), and that puppy just will not stay in the pen. Advice?

Hi, exact same thing with mine. Thinking on applying some glue, of sorts. What have you done? is your ok now?

I assume that you mean inner cap. Blind caps are usually on the back end of a pen, covering something like the filling mechanism.

A weaker adhesive like shellac or Loctite would make it easier to remove the inner cap when you need to.

I have since been educated on this. :)

Actually, I sent the pen to Lamy service, and they repaired it and returned it within the week. It seems there is a screw that holds the inner cap in place, and the screw had come out.

It now operates just fine. I did see where a number of other people had this problem, so apparently the screw can come out over time. It's a thing to watch for.

I returned it to Lamy's service division, and they fixed it. There's a screw that holds the inner cap inside the pen, and it came out. Mine was a display model, and I don't know if it happened in the store or at home, but apparently it's something to watch out for.

If you send it to Lamy with the $9.50 feel, they fix it really quickly. I sent it off on Monday and it was back by Friday.

Here's the Web page giving the details: https://cms.lamyusa.com/en/repairs.html

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
