Please note that one of the vintage Coffee Brown inks seems to have decomposed over the time; I suspect the orange-brown one is not the original color.

Excellent review, I think my new colour when the Sepia runs out, thanks.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

Excellent review - thank you. Looks a nice brown - the sepia was always a bit light for my taste. I quite like the seasons greetings brown and this looks more like that.

Thank you for an outstanding review - I appreciate the generous amount of reference samples! That old MB ink bottle is gorgeous - what a pity that they didn't make an updated version of that.

I rather imagine that MB feel that is exactly what they have done!

Thank you for your review. I appreciated very much your thorough discussion of the prior ink colors, and the samples you demonstrated with.

Many thanks for all of your nice comments!

... I quite like the seasons greetings brown and this looks more like that.

I actually forgot to include both Season's Greatings browns in my review :headsmack:

Hopefully I manage to include those during the next days.

Thank you; I just found it recentyl but I have not tried the ink in a pen yet (I think it is iron gall nut Blue Black). The bottle is the famous Liegeflasche (laying bottle) which was still available in the 1950's. I think it was Montblanc answer to the also famous Pelilan Liegeflasche which (I think) was designed by the famous designer Wilhelm Wagenfeld. Wagenfeld did a couple of ink bottle designs for Pelikan.

Talking about interesting ink bottle design; just wait until you see the strange futuristic plastic bottles Montblanc used during the 1970's and 1980's

You don't happen to have any pics of those futuristic ink bottles?

I have a few of the ink bottles but no pictures. I'll try to post some later this week.

Amazing review - thanks so much. I was expecting the toffee brown to be much more orange than it looks from your comparison chart. I'll certainly give some a go now I can see the shading is slightly darker than the word 'toffee' implies (or maybe I just associate 'toffee' with a lighter brown because of 'toffos' - my favourite sweets when I was a young-un...)

...well, Montblanc Violet looks more like a purple-aubergine, Ruby Red looks more like a bright orange-red, and so on.

Color perception is different to any individual person but some ink names are just so wrong :gaah:.

More than once this proves that what's counting is in the bottle and not on the label.

I would have expected a lighter and more golden-brown color from the name as well.

Cheers

Great reviews and publicity for MB here................now when can we get some in the U.S. It seems most ink companies announce this stuff on their website and you can gauge a dealer having it or in the case of Noodler's ask the distributor or retailer and then the issue of whether MB will have it on the refills web page or just boutiques and then which boutiques and which colors will they have. I respect that it's a marginal item but if you're in the game then play it right, many of us here have bought MB's instruments and some may in the future.

During the last years Montblanc used to introduce most new limited edition pens at an earlier point of time in foreign countries. I never understood those tactics with Montblanc being a German based brand. I just figured that the oversea's market is/was stronger and they experienced a higher demand. Now the inks seem to be available in Germany at first :clap1:

From what I have experienced the new colors have not announced officially to the public yet (also I don't think that MB will make a big public deal from changing their line of inks because it is consumable material to them :P ). The ink selection has not been mentioned in their customer catalogs since years

Here is a scan of the information sellers have gotten (thanks to lapis):

Montblanc Writing Accessories (New Ink Bottle)

I have no idea when the new MB inks will be available regulary. Neither did the staff people in the Frankfurt boutique (they only stock Oyster Grey and Toffee Brown at the moment) but they expect the new range to be fully available during the next months (Irish Green will be launched later this spring). They might get the new inks depending on their stock of the recent ink colors  ...but I don't know if this is true.

Independent stationary stores might be different as well; they might stock the new colors only as soon as the old ones are gone.

I hope you will be able to get some of the new colors soon as well.

Michael

PS: the same happens with new color additions to their leather range (e.g. pen pouches); once a color is sold out it gets replaced with a different one without any further notice (at least that's the case with the funky fashionable ones).

A very interesting color as I have the recent "Sepia" and find it a tolerable (if dry) ink.

I think I may like the new toffee color a wee bit better.

Thanks for taking the time to craft this review!

PS- how is it this thread has so many replies and 0 views?

Wow! This new ink looks great. Atleast based on the scans, it looks better than Sepia to me. I'll have to get some and try it myself. Again, thanks for another awesome review.

cheers
