Iroshizuku - complete set of swabs and writing samples

kushbaby

Recommended Posts

As requested, a scan of swabs of all of the Iroshizuku inks available in the US (i.e., I don't have the special edition ones). As I also happen to have all of these inks in one pen or another, there is also a writing sample for each ink - interesting to see the differences in wet vs. dry pens for the same ink.

Note: I have not adjusted this in any way - straight out of the scanner. Paper is Rhodia for both samples.

Edit: I have also taken some photos, to complement the scans, for those who want to see them. Unfortunately, Photoshop is misbehaving right now, so I've only done a quick auto-white balance (not too much change) and crop. I think the scans are better (probably my poor photography skills), but for whatever it's worth, here they are:

This is fantastic!

I love the Iroshizuku line, but some of the colors are very similar. Now I know exactly which inks to put back on my list and which ones are definitely ruled out. Gotta get me some of that Ajisai!

Argh, you are NOT helping me talk myself out of getting some of these inks...

Resistance is futile. You will submit. :ninja:

Thanks! I agree - some are very similar. Of course, being the inkhead that I am, I have gotten to where I'm really into the subtle differences. The only ones I feel are redundant are Fuyu-gaki and Momiji - they're not identical, but so close that I'd probably be happy with one or the other. Otherwise, I'm glad to have all of them. I originally thought the blue green spectrum thing was overkill, but now I like having the subtle options. I tend to use the pens that are filled with these inks a lot.

And Ajisai is AMAZING!!! Truly gorgeous color - similar to Noodler's Periwinkle, without all the angst and drama. :cloud9:

BTW, someone PM'd me to ask, and I thought I'd share with the whole class - the nib sizes for the VPs in the Yu-yake and Fuyu-gaki writing samples are Medium...

This can't be right! Just look at the bottles, and your swabs. Maybe try it in a different pen. it sounds more like the sample you wrote was contaminated with another colour. Fuyu=gake is definately on the orange/yellow spectrum whilst momiji is on the red/purple side.

unless something strange happens when these inks cross the equator!

but, kushbaby, thanks for the reviews and samples. Yeah, I'm an another ink junkie with a large collection of these inks

No, you are right, Fuyu-gaki is orangey, but compared to Yu Yake (or a more pure orange like Diamine Blaze Orange), it has a tinge of "pinkish" hue - as it *should*, since it's supposed to be persimmon (I've compared it to a lot of oranges). The Momiji is a bright red with a tinge of purple pink to me, more pink than Skrip Red (so, I agree with you). I've tried them in a few pens, and they weren't contaminated. I agree that they ARE different. I'm just saying that, for me, that particular difference isn't something I'm seeking (whereas I like the subtle differences between the blues). For someone else, the difference between, say Tsuyu-kusa and Asagao, might not be worth having both (I happen to like them both).

It's just a matter of taste. :D

Sorry, sorry, sorry! I thought you meant that Fuyu-gaki was close to Momiji. Blame it on the fact that i was eating cashews, not peanuts and without chopsticks. Silly me!

:notworthy1: You are my hero! Not only do you own all of the beautiful iroshizuku inks that I want, you have one of my grail pens...the Pilot VP LE Orange!!! :notworthy1:

Thank you for posting such a wonderful ink scan of all of the colors. These are the type of posts that give me the most information when deciding what inks I want. I immediately placed a Jetpens order for the Momiji after seeing your scan!

Warm regards,

Lynne
