Thanks for the excellent review. This is really good to see because I got my first delivery of Procolours yesterday. We'll need to get them listed in the Lucky 7 Pens store soon! I've not opened them yet but was hoping they would be good - your review confirms that. :-)

Merry Christmas!

I have purchased one of these as well. Not my favorite choice of colors. Well designed, nice cigar-shaped body. They could use a better plastic. I like that tiny o-ring on the section.

What I did not like is ... yes, the F nib. Scratchy... Tried to smooth it out. Did not work. IMHO< a good pen is one which writes well right out of the box. I have several pens with F nibs, they are thin indeed but NOT scratchy. In two days, I gave up, and my first and the only Sailor joined other pens in the storage. I really expected better job from Sailor. WILL STICK WITH PILOT! They never let me down (so far).

Adallak, just for my info, which Pilot is it you returned to ?

Thanks

I have several F and M Pilot 78Gs, Plumix, Prera, Petite 1, Varsity, Elite with EF nib. All of them are good pens, but my favorite is 78G either F or M. F nib may use some smoothing. M nib is great both with good and not so good paper. Cannot say enough good words about 78G! I do know some people do not share my enthusiasm though. One of the best features of 78G is that you can leave it uncapped for very long time and it still will write with a very little effort.

I plan to buy one of of Custom series Pilots. Probably 74.

Elite with EF is not my cup of tea. I like the way the cap is secured.

The F nib in the Procolor is indeed super scratchy. But it is also the finest point nib I got currently but the difference compared to the Sailor Sapporo MF nib is truly heaven and earth. In comparison to the Stipula Bon Voyage F nib which is just slightly wider but just as stiff, again there is really no comparison as the Stipula nib is glassy smooth. Not sure why Sailor's so scratchy. In the end I gave it to my kid to start learning fountain pen.

CURRENT: Konrad, Ahab, Ice Sport, 205 Red + Demo blue + yellow, Bon Voyage, Custom Heritage 92 Blue, Sapporo, Modelo T - Black, Etruria Rainbow Yellow, Etruria Voyeur, Pearlette, Emotica, Olympio Midi, 360 Turquois Demo, TWSBI Mini and counting...

I have experienced a number of ProColours to be pretty scratchy out of the box. They're nice pens though, the Violet and Turquoise ones are cool. If only they come in MF I think smoothness would improve drastically.

I am considering this Sailor Procolor. I love the pale light pink color!

I love the look of it, but with all the mixed reviews of the nib makes me worried. Also it is only available in a F and I don't think I will like a nib that fine (I think it's more like a Western XF).

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the nib with a different one (I would like a smooth M), and if so, where to purchase one?

My problem is for a $70 pen I hate to think I have to pay more to replace the nib. On a cheaper pen sure. But I am debating if this pen is worth it or not.

It is so difficult to find a pretty pale light pink pen I like for an amount I can afford and with either a good nib or can be replaced with a good nib! <Sigh!>

Thank you for any help!

The nib and feed are friction fit and can be pull out, any sailor steel nib or 14k nib from other Procolors or 1911 will fit. The issue is buying just the nib instead of a whole pen, the only retailer I'm aware that sell stand alone sailor nib is Engeika, and he only sells the expensive 14k nibs for $100 or so. The similar sized #5 nib from Twsbi 540/580 will also fit, but you may need to make a small modification. The Back of sailor nib have a small cut out to fit the feed. I was able to jam a F 580 nib in and use it, but the 580 B nib is a bit harder to Jam in.
