I've wondered the same thing. Obviously some new found Estie nib shortage could make using our pens more of an "issue".

On the other hand, small motherlodes still appear on The Bay pretty regularly. Seeing how they don't have Parker or Sheaffer on them,

I think to a non-FP person they might be seen as less valuable. Hopefully so.

In the back of my mind also, I think that somewhere, Berol has to have metric butt loads of old Estie stuff stuck away in some "Raiders of

the Lost Ark" styled warehouse that they don't even know about...

It's certainly in the back, Back of my mind though.

I'm currently hoarding them and will be the last person to start selling so don't worry, I'm still young.

I'm not so concerned with your age relative to when the nibs may go up for sale...

I'm ALOT more concerned that you'll have any idea where you PUT them when it comes time to sell them.

I know where some of them are. I got me one of those nib holder thingies at the LA pen show. Ain't nuttin in it yet but I have good intentions!

Did I tell you about the three desk pens I nabbed on e-bay just because they had 9284 nibs?

Now where did I put that package...

Those desk pens rock, please don't dispose of them.

No worries. I've never met a pen I couldn't store indefinitely.

I am doing my small part. Modest though it may be, I recently bought a bunch of new nibs with the express purpose of keeping them out of the hands of nib grinders. Alas, but I am old and my effort may be short lives. I will try to make a note about them and leave it with my will. :)

This question tempts me to wonder what it would cost to have new nib units made compatible with Renew Point originals. Injection molding is cheaper to set up than it used to be (CNC is a wonderful labor saver, and 3D CAD makes it about 98% likely that a new mold will work perfectly first try, which helps control cost), and Bock or Schmidt nibs and feeds aren't hard to come by or overly expensive. I'd bet one could produce new nib units to fit Esterbrook (and Osmiroid) pens for around $20 to $30 each (retail), as long as you stick with standard nib offerings -- they wouldn't be 9668s or Reliefs, but they'd at least ensure there was a means to keep the old Esterbrooks writing.

If you ordered 7.5 metric buttloads of them, I'll bet you could get ESTERBROOK Re-New points made, with ESTERBROOK done in the style on the nib

of your preference, in stainless, indistinguisable from the original for about a buck three ninety eight each from the Chinese.

If they can do a whole Parker Sonnet that is virtually indistinguishable from the real thing, they should be able to do a Re-new point ricketryspritry.

No doubt you're correct, Bruce -- that'd produce, what, 25,000 new nib units for every Esterbrook pen still in service? I was thinking more along the lines of a run of a few thousand each in F, M, and B-stub -- maybe even just get ten thousand of the collars made up and sell those directly.

Not with my capital, mind you; I have trouble affording a bottle of ink...
