A Bunch of Blues

I've been meaning to post an example of blue inks that I use for quite some time. If all goes well, and I successfully attach an image file, well, here it is.

With Diamine Royal Blue, I've finally found a blue ink that I really like. It's blue without shades of purple or green.

I like and will continue to use all of the others. BTW, Herbin Bleu Pervenche is my favorite!

The scan, unfortunately, does not do justice to the original.

Thanks, George! I've been thinking of posting some comparison samples, too. I've got another blue on the way, and am still searching for my "perfect" blue. There's a few inks I want to do reviews on, too, but that takes longer, so I may do samples first. :)

I sold my Herbin Bleu Azur without ever getting around to trying it on ink jet paper. Guess I should have held onto it. This is the kind of info we all need.

Best, Ann

Nice comparison, George. Like you, I find Diamine Royal Blue suits me best. Just now, it's the single most used ink in my pens - in everything from a Parker Vector to a Stipula 991 and Pelikan M800.

How does the JH Bleu Azur compare to the JH Diabolo Menthe? They look very similar on the colour chart at the The Writing Desk, though I guess the latter should be more of a green than a blue.

I was perfectly happy with my blues until you showed me that Diamine royal blue!!

It's always great to for us blue enthusiasts to see new ones and comparison scans.

Thanks for sharing,

J

I have some blue samples and a couple of bottles of blue inks. Is it me, or am I correct that I notice that the Herbin Eclat de Saphir is shading differently when I use it in different pens? It appears more bold, brighter, when I use my Bexley with a fine nib, than when I inked up my Wailty 62L with whatever nib it has

The page:

links to this page for american blue. It ain't here though.

Seeing this reminded me that I really like Aurora Blue - just have too many inks to try right now to go back.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
