J.Herbin Encre Rouge (Rose Scent)

Recommended Posts

Here is the fourth ink of the J.Herbin "Les Subtiles" Series. I apologize for the messy review as I was a bit rushed (It's painfully clear that margins and straight lines are not my strong points :P ).

Disclaimer: Any feathering in this review is caused by the sharp tines of the dip nib digging into the paper.

Thanks for the review! The last thing I need is another bottle of ink -- but I like the looks of this one. It could work as an editing ink, though I mainly use brown and orange to edit. The subtlety of the rose scent, as an editing ink, will be a bonus. A strong rosy scent, coupled with the colour, would likely send the wrong message... :)

P.S. Have you tried it in a regular fountain pen to see if its lubricating properties improve?

Talking about fountain pens is like dancing about architecture.

Lovely!. Both the color and the review!. I heard a few months back that Herbin had started producing scented inks also. Is nice, I have always missed the scent of the old inks my aunts used to write their notes with. I wonder how would tha ink behave in a regular Fp in the long run, though. Great, now I want to have it.

Here is a scan of the ink used in different pens. For some reason the flow was inconsistent in the Sheaffer school pen, but it does exhibit the best shading out of the group. Fortunately, lubrication properties did improve with fountain pens (but not much, since this ink is better suited for wet writers).

  • 3 years later...

I had intended to write some Christmas correspondence with 1670, but my offspring has absconded with it, so I took out a bottle of Les Subtiles Roses to write my letters. I have it in a Graphomatic with a nice flexible nib. I have found it to be so bleedy and feathering that it is useless as letter writing ink. I was writing on a very heavy linen paper and it still bled right through. So having wasted a sheet of white, I decided to try it in stone parchment paper and the result is the same. It smells lovely, it is a beautiful colour, but I really do not think it is good ink for my uses. I do not have this problem with the Bleu Nuit, however the cologne like smell of that is cloying and not at all subtle.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
