Any good nibmeisters in the UK ?

Otherwise, I'll have to send it to the US and pay those ridiculous UK customs charges and handling fees.

Parcelforce have this week raised their handling charge to £13.50 from £8.00 ! I know, because I paid £8 last week and £13.50 today, for parcels to be delivered from the US. The VAT was only £12, so ended up paying more for the handling fee !

They don't seem too bothered about parcels from elsewhere, though.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've heard good things about Laurence Oldfield www.penpractice.com and I've also heard that Peter Twydle at www.penmuseum.co.uk does repairs.

No doubt they both have long waiting lists :(

If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; But if you really make them think, they'll hate you.

I've recently been in contact with Laurence Oldfield and was told he's unlikely to send any new work back before May. He's writing a book about pen repairs - that will be worth reading.

Regards

Richard.

When I sent a pen to Richard Binder (from the UK) I wrote on the Customs form, at his instruction, 'pen for repair'. He wrote something similar on the US Customs form when he returned the pen to me (e.g. 'returning pen after repair' or something along that line) and I was not charged VAT or Customs on what was my own pen to begin with.

I have a linked question about general repairs - I need a couple of vintage pens serviced. I figure the nibs need to be looked at as well as new ink sacs put in. I was told by a friend that Pen Museum was the way to go and on the website he says 15 days turn around. I haven't actually spoken to him yet though!

Would be interested to know what you hear!

Hi, I have used the Pen Museum a few times, most recently 2 weeks ago - I sent my Parker 51 Special to him via Royal Mail Special Delivery on the Friday. Peter Twydle contacted me via email on the Monday with a quote for the work to be done (paid via paypal) and I received them back via Royal Mail Special Delivery the following Friday - a 7 day turnaround.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
