Pen & Paper Stores in Orange County, CA

Recommended Posts

I live in Tustin, CA (Orange County) and have not been able to locate a good stationary store and or pen shop locally. With the exception of Paradise Pen in Costa Mesa, that is. I do not particularly care for them and I would prefer to trade with a small independent owner if possible. I am going to the Los Angeles Pen Show this weekend in Manhattan Beach, so maybe I will run into someone there too. Any recommendations or suggestions? /Craig

There's Flax Pen To Paper in Westwood near UCLA (just off Wilshire). The have a nice selection of pens, paper and ephemera but they charge full retail.

There's also Fred Krinke's Fountain Pen Shop in Monrovia. Fred's been in the business for years (and had a table at the LA Show).

Fred's shop in Monrovia is my first choice, but he has mostly pens. Another great place, if you want more than pens, and great service, is Vroman's Fine Writing in Pasadena. I know that neither is close to Tustin, but both are definately worth the drive.

Oh yeah, I forgot Vroman's. That's one of my favorites.

Just to add a note about Flax...it's pretty decent. It's a very glass and wood kind of place, which is fairly appealing to look at, and the selection is alright. It's got a bunch of Rhodia and Clairefontaine in the back and pens up front...it's worth a looksee.

Unfortunately, it's pretty much across the street from where I work and I'm afraid any minute my resolve will snap and this part-time job of mine will cause me to lose FAR more money than I make. Ah well. Such is the life of an FPNer, eh?
