New Noodler's Pushkin

After receiving two different Noodler's inks,i decided to review the "El Lawrence" first.

Now next up is the Noodler's Russian series called "Pushkin",named after the famous author.When i looked at the bottle i thought it was a bit more green than the swatch on the Pendemonium website had shown.I filled up a pen and started writing.Certainly not what i expected! The swatch showed a distinct grey colour.This was more of a "sea foam" green or a limestone.

Yet,i didn't mind this shade of green.

 

Here is a sample of the ink on #20 Hammermill paper using a Visconti Van Gogh with fine nib:

It flowed rather smoothly and actually surprised me a bit by it's viscosity.It doesn't darken as much as i would wish.Still,i have warmed up to this colour as it has a calming effect on the eyes(in my humble opinion).Very nice.

 

I wanted to try a different paper.So up next was a #60 Astroparch Vellum paper from Wausau paper.This paper gives that parchment effect without the heaviness and expense of real parchment( it cost $14 per ream).Here it is:

It is lighter because of the papers darker hue.

 

Finally,it is packaged in this delightful bottle made for the russian market.I read and speak the language a bit so it was fun translating the bottle.Here is a photograph:

So if you like greens,this colour might be for you.At first i was thinking of returning it for a grey colour.But i have since changed my mind and will keep it.

The only smell is a faint odor of vinegar.Otherwise,it is fine.

Very pretty! Kind of like Lexington Gray with a hint of mint. The writing has an old-and-faded look even though the ink is fresh out of the bottle. Try doing that with a "normal" pen!

This Pushkin is an intriguing color. I'd like to get him next to Fyodor D. and see how they compare.

What a subtle color! So dangerous for me to see (I am on an "off green" kick right now. And El Lawrence looked tempting also ...). Thanks, Handlebar, for your recent reviews. It's been very helpful to see scans of writing, instead of swatches, and I've enjoyed seeing what these inks look like on different stock (and in two different handwriting styles!). The nice large shots of the labels are great, too.

pendemonium already posted new color swatches, and the tolstoy, which in the old samples looked like a dark orange, now looks peach. and now the pushkin in this review looks a seafoam green when in the swatches it looks gray. i don't remember what it looks like in the old samples because i was paying attention only to the tolstoy. but i do love the el lawrence because of the review.

Looks awfully light, I wonder how hard it'd be to read with an EF nib like I use. Probably fun to draw with, though.

I used the brown Astroparch for these samples.Bought a ream at a local paper outlet.Looks like standard parchment but is #60 instead od the usual 200.

 

Nice paper for the price.Works well with most of my pens and inks.

Some of the newer "bulletproof" inks seem to be tinted with a non-waterproof color, like FPN galileo and the Swishmixes (which are indeed mixtures of the swisher eternals and the swisher quick-drying nonpermanents).

Yes, I noticed that, too. In a soaking, a small amount of orange runs off from FPN Brown. No great shakes, mind you; the "bulletproof" label is still apt, IMO.

To be more precise on the colour of Astroparch,it is called "aged".

WHOA!!! I realize this is an older review.. but Thanks!!

 

I took a pass on this color in my recent search for XXX/grey colors because the swatch looked just plain grey to my eye... but, this green/grey is FABULOUS! I love the greyish mixes, and this one is very pleasant.

 

In Moscow, just outside of Red Square, at the corner of the Kremlin, there are some statues in a running 'river' fountain representing Pushkin's fairy tales... very nice.. a must see for any tourist to Moscow.

 

This color, to me, is more representative of Pushkin's home in eastern Crimea - Gurzuf - on the Black Sea... Seafoam with the darker tones of grey... which really fit Pushkin's chosen adherence to a more simplistic writing style.

 

Very pleasant indeed.

Just bought this in a sale from Swisher's and I simply love the stuff. A cool, quiet green, totally waterproof when I wet the page in the kitchen sink and on my Rhodia pads I get great shading. One of my favorite greens so far. Glad I got it, plus at a reduced price since it was on sale
