Soldier Clips on Doric OS pens?

Over on another network as they used to say on TV, Larry Shelton asked if the "first generation" Oversized Doric pens came in a Soldier Clip model. The answer contains some interesting information about numbering of Wahl-Eversharp Dorics and what pens from that era Doric carried soldier clips and which did not. Here is the last post:

If you look to the numbers in the catalog that you are referencing (1932), you will find the answers. The size 8 pen (the oversize) was available in the DC (Doric Clip -Side Clip - lower position) and it was the #6 pen that was available with the DSC (Doric Soldier Clip). You can also look to the right at the prices as a guide. the $8.50 pens were the Oversize and the $6.00 pens were the full size or senior size. This is true for all colors. I think if you go through the catalog from page to page and color to color you will find this holds true with the DSC available only on the #6, $6 pens or lower. The model codes full numbering tell more. The Oversize pen full number code goes: 861(0X). Where 8=pen size, 6=nib size,1=TOL Doric and (0X) was the color (08=Morocco, 01= Kashmir, 03=Cathay, 02= Burma - Strangely Black has no color digit as it is only #8610.) Black and Pearl (04) was not shown in the catalog.

In that catalog, Larry noticed that the descriptions of what the pens were like, to the right of the illustrations, seemed to indicate that Dorics could be had with Soldier Clips the following was the reply: When the catalog paragraph talks about Soldier Clips being available, that specific paragraph iis referring to the #6 size pen. The 4 paragraphs to the right line up with the 4 illustrations to the left, and the 2nd paragraph lines up with the 2nd from the left illustration (#641DC/DSC) which is the #6 size pen.

Sorry for all this detail, but as always it seems, the numbers tell the story and thatcan get a little complicated.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
