Montblanc Violet

I should preface by saying, tat I had a lot of problems getting this ink to scan correctly. It kept scanning way more black than it really is. So, it took a few tries, but I finally got an acceptable scan out. Please note, that it still shows a tiny more black than it really is in the paper.

Shading this ink surprises me, at work not much shading at all, at home the ink does appear to pop a little bit more, with some nice shading. The ink is nice and well behaved. It produced a nice fine wetish line in my Lamy Safari, and doesn't show too much show through or feathering. I did have an issue with some nib creep, but I think thats more of a nib issue I am having with the Lamy. The ink does a fine job at lubricating the nib, and I see no flow issues at all.

Montblanc Violet, is a really fun color that I have no problem using at work. It works great paired with the Lamy, this ink will stay in the rotation for a long time.

I love it!

It is like the black magic blue PR, one of my preferred inks!

A great ink. You failed to show that it offers some water-resistance, too.

I think this ink's color is rich and very sophisticated. I agree it is well behaved and really fun to use. I have also yet to get any major shading from it, but I love the color so much I don't care. MB has a winner with this one.

Without a doubt. So, how long until the geniuses at MB discontinue THIS one?:headsmack:

Mary A just posted an inquiry in "Inky Thoughts" about this very topic. I thought MB's Violet was going to stay for a while. Am I mistaken?! (Of course, I will put nothing past MB's executive "geniuses.")

One of the few MB inks that I have never tried. Thanks for the review- it is a much nicer colour than I had imagined- must pick up a bottle next time that I am in town.

Just got a bottle yesterday. Works great in my Lamy Studio M - great flow, great color. This will probably be my go-to purple ink for now on.

Not only the best purple ink out there (with all due respect to Caran d'Ache Storm and Noodler's Puprple Wampum), but also one of the best overall inks.

...and, yes, I'm building a stash in case those discontinued rumors are true and it isn't simply renamed "royal purple" with the new MB ink roll out.

Great review, I love this ink. I brouhgt it for my new Legrand and it shades about as well with the medium nib. It reminds me or a royal purple, and is dark enough for me to use at the office. I had no idea that it has some water resistence though which is a bonus.

I like it, but a bit more blue in the mix would suit me better, because i like dark colours. But, that's just me. It seems to be a bit on the slower-drying side of the field, that's the only problem.

I love the color, but find that I get a darker shade with larger nibs. i.e from OB > M > F color get lighter. Quite like the PR Ebony Purple ink and will mix my current stock of MB vilot with some Pel black to get a more darker shade.

I just got a sample of this ink. I wanted to mention the reddish/iridescent sheen that appears on the surface, just like Diamine Majestic Blue. It's a pretty cool effect & I don't remember if anyone else has pointed it out. I wonder if the new Lavender has the same property, since it's been reported to be identical otherwise?

As you might expect it's hell to capture in a photograph, but here are my attempts:

From straight above, no sheen:

From an angle, the sheen has a trippy red-green effect:

Thanks for the info (I only used B&W film and learned to process that).   Boy -- the stuff I learn here!  Just continually astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge in this community! Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

@Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
