Diamine Majestic

This has become my favourite standard blue. Dark, vibrant, luscious - like a classic red wine (if it wasn't blue and an ink). Unfortunately - for the Midnight - it has unseated the Diamine Midnight as closest-to-the-perfect-dark-blue. I almost feel sorry for the Midnight. The Midnight is a very handsome ink, but this is something special. Unfortunately the smearing test didn't scan well. The drying time is fast - 5-7 s. A very well behaved, non-feathering, delicious blue.

A great review, and you have chosen some interesting inks for comparison. Interesting because they are on my list of possible purchases.

 

I like the colour but I have to say I am not happy with the ink. I have quite a few Diamine inks and I have more problems with poor flow with Majestic Blue than with any of the others. It seems more prone to clogging.

 

However, I think I must have a poor batch because I have heard nothing but praise for this ink.

It is easier than I expected. A dream compared with Diamine WES Imperial Blue. Maybe it is the lack of Magenta that makes it rather easy to flush. I haven't noticed any proneness for clogging - on the contrary I was happy that this is such a sweet and kind ink in my more picky pens. Thanks for compliments.

Usually these two traits run in opposition to each other. Most quick drying inks are quite prone to feathering and vice-versa.

Yes, I agree with you. When I use it on higher quality paper like rhodia it tends to not feather at all, but takes even longer to dry (the ink just stays there for a bit until it dries)

I love the color, but it does tend to dry up in my pens more quickly than other Diamine inks. I had it in an Aurora 88p and it only took a week for the ink to dry up. It's the only ink that's ever dried out in the pen, which has seen a range of Aurora, Waterman, Diamine, Pilot Iroshizuku inks.

Interesting that your experiences differ from mine. Maybe I got a "good batch". I used it on various paper - both Rhodia (web notebook 80 g m2 - crappy and feathering prone) ordinary copy paper (eq to HP) and other paper, etc and it has behaved very kind with respect to feathering. The drying time was estimated in the Rhodia web notebook and I haven't noticed an especially long drying time using other paper/pen combos. So, I am a bit puzzled. I'll get back if my experiences of Majestic change. Thanks for input and for positive response! And, Henry Louis, for adding that the water resistance equates zero.

Those non-waterproof or non-water-resistant inks may be good for a journal where you plant your hot and steamy thoughts (or adventures) on. Should you want to "erase" your journal, you just need to toss it in the toilet for the quick kill. The Diamine Majestic ink has it purpose.

Pengrump, I had exactly the same experience with my 88P. Majestic Blue was the first ink I put in the pen so I was worried I had a dodgy pem. But I swaped the ink for Quink Black and had no problems.

I love the color too, but I find that it's difficult to rinse out of my pens. So I only use it in certain ones.

I keep it loaded in a red auroloide Aurora Optima. After three months of the pen being continuously filled with Majestic Blue, I emptied and cleaned the pen as a test.

 

No difficulty removing the ink.

 

No staining.

 

I will do periodic tests of increasingly longer times between flushing, but don't expect any problems.

I don’t think your review is too positive. It is a very good review of a lovely coloured ink. It is just I have had a few flow problems with dry pens. I use Majestic blue in other pens and I have not noticed any staining problems.
