Cs At Richard's Pens

Recommended Posts

Anyone know what's happening with Conway Stewart and Richard's Pens? You can't open the section of the site devoted to CS, and a weird pop-up window appears. All the other pen pages open just fine. A glitch or a feud? And here I was thinking about a CS for my birthday. Hope it's a glitch.

I see there's a pop-up window that says "Conway Stewart pens are temporally unavailable" perhaps the page is under construction.

Richard has told me that CS is restructuring their model line, so he's not sure when the issue is going to be resolved. Apparently lots of hush hush on the information side from CS.

CS has had quite a few new lines in the last few years. We had the Nelson and Wellington a few years ago, and a whole new set of 4-5 models has just been added. Add to that the 100 and Churchill, and the older pens as bespoke, and there are probably just too many CS models right now. Perhaps CS itself, or at least its U.S. distributor, is considering consolidating its offerings. If that is the case, we can hope for some clearance sales in the near future :D (you always have to find the bright side of things ;) )

I saw a comment on Ebay that the Conway Stewart 100 would be discontinued after 2009. Any truth to that? I rather hope not, it's my favorite Conway Stewart.

Just when i was getting attached to the 100, too. ::sniff::

I prefer the 58, though.

Great. Now I have to get another 100 along with a black Stipula Etruria before they're both discontinued. Bye-bye budget! It's too bad that the 100 series might be discontinued as it's one of the more economical lines of CS considering the price of some of their other models.

CS seems now completely removed whereas it was just grayed out before.

Thewritingdesk.co.uk is selling off their last CS inventory. Styloplume.net in France doesn't carry them anymore. What's going on here?

I can take a not so wild guess for the U.S. market. If indeed the new models (Bard, Raleigh, etc.) will be distributed exclusively through Worldlux, I can easily understand how other vendors might feel they have been left out and dealt an unfair competitive disadvantage, and simply dropped the brand. My guess is that CS pens aren't selling all that well right now anyway, given their high prices and the state of the economy.

There might also be another explanation: It could be that CS is going the Montblanc route and wants to sell pens only through luxury-oriented shops, dropping in the process internet-only businesses. I guess we will eventually find out what is going on.

If either is indeed the case then good riddance to modern CS.

Think CS is trying to streamline its offerings, right now many choices, and when you add in the bespoke choices on top of that, it's a lot for CS to manage....

What a shame if the above speculated situations come true! The CS100 is a great pen and CS, like so many other pen companies, seems intent on destroying themselves by looking only to the "luxury" or "boutique" models. I wonder if this isn't a trend initiated by MontBlanc? My view is that this business stinks!

We don't know what the changes are, yet, so making judgments on no information really isn't wise.

I'm hoping I'll like the direction, but I'll wait to see what it is first.

FWIW, my post above was based upon some info that I know of....

Not sure that it's OK to say more right now....

Well, it was implied by some of what Mary asked that there would be streamlining.

The fact that there was going to be streamlining was clearly stated somewhere. But why has Richard removed his "temporarily unavailable" (or whatever it was) sign? Did he just decide to drop the line or did he simply decide to wait for the new official lines to be chosen to put back CS on his site? Also, the nagging question with Worldlux's exclusive rights (for now) of the four new models cannot sit well with all other dealers.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
