Reynolds Erasable Ink (from France)

Recommended Posts

I'd like to share my new blog post about some interesting erasable ink from France.

Please see the full post with photos here: Reynolds Encre Effacable from France. Following is the text of the post:

This post is about some very interesting fountain pen ink, Reynolds Erasable ink which I received from my friend and follow blogger of Mr. Sir's Blog, you can also follow him on Twitter @ecram.

I was not able to find any information about this ink, except in French which I can't read. So I'm just going to tell you about it.

This ink comes in standard cartridges and the carts that Eric sent are blue. I'm not sure if it comes in other colors or not.

This ink comes with an interesting accessory, it's own eraser and what I have termed "the repairman". The eraser end is effectively a marker which contains some sort of secret solution which magically erases the fountain pen ink from the paper. After you have used this marker, you are no longer able to use the fountain pen ink on the area of the paper which has been treated, so in comes the repairman which is used to rewrite the erased words, if needed.

I have used this in my journal with great success, no need to cross out misspelled words - YAY! The photos here show it on Rhodia paper which also worked will, however the ink color from the repairman did not match up as well, I think that it just reacts differently to different types of paper.

Yup!

Used them in France for all my class work.

Lifesavers, I call them. Crossing out was not well regarded when I was handwriting all my essays.

The day they'll be imported in the U.S, I'll jump so high the USGS is going to have to check their seismographs. :)

Pelikan makes them too, but they also do not import them in the U.S but they do in Canada.

When I visited France last winter, the first place I ran to was one of the 'papeterie', and I found the same Reynolds effacable bleu ink cartridges..

Well, not exactly the same; they were the same international size, but were packed in bulk, about 50-60 cartridges in a plastic bag. :)

Compared to the price of ink cartridges in my country(Korea), it was incredibly cheap, so I bought 2 bags of them. And bought 4 'erasers' to go with them. :)

The eraser can be used on any type of blue ink(except Blue-Black); I tried it with Parker Quink Blue and Lamy Blue, and it works very well.

Personally, I found the Reynolds ink drying too quickly in the cartridge. Even regarding that ink tend to 'evaporate' when untouched for a long time, Reynolds

was worse than other kinds of ink I've used. I wonder whther it is the fault of ink quality itself or due to the fact that the cartridges were not 'sealed'

perfectly. Or maybe I was just unlucky..

The J. Herbin 'Bleu Myosotis' is erasable as well. I haven't tried it for myself yet, but that's how it's advertised anyway. Supposedly that's the color of J. Herbin used by Louis XIV, too.

I just came across this in Korean Hawaii type stationery sets that I got online for a couple of dollars you get a cute little fountain pen, 5 cartridges, a converter and the eraser marker. Mind = Blown. ..although I found a downside in that one the eraser fluid touches paper, you'll never be able to write there with the erasable ink again. That was not a happy surprise, lol

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
