You actually pay retail for your pens? Shame on you. I did buy my pen brand new from a retailer not an ebay seller or a seller on FPN. ...

The European MSRP (which considerably higher than than the North American) of the decimo and the Dialog 3 are about the same, around EUR 190 incl VAT. And European retailers somehow stick to MSRPs, I think the manufacturers are stricter in their contracts here, but i don't know the real reasons.

The decimo and VP/Capless are positioned as top-of-the-line pens of Pilot in Europe. Thus the higher price point.

That's a shame. You can't order from online for a better price?

They get taxed and such, I believe.

Of course we can and do so whenever the Value Added Tax and the rather negligible import duties into the EU still result in a good deal. My point was just to "explain" the possible reasoning of Lamy when choosing the price level for that pen in their main market - which is not North America.

HenryLouis, I think that a retractable nib can be cool and practical in some cases, but it's not necessary. If we (fp users) were looking for something practical we would all be used disposable bps.

The Pilot fermo also has a twist mechanism, and nobody in this thread has mentioned it. Ballpens with twist action have been available for decades as some fountain pens as well.

We're all talking (or started to talk) about a pen none has seen; it might even not exist: someone with knowledge about computer design/photoshopping could create a virtual pen.

I've read people talking about that virtual pen's ergonomics and weight!!! C'mon, be serious, and if that wasn't enough some people compared it with a VP which is not the most ergonomic or lightest pen.

Regarding price, so far Lamy has excellent value for the different pens they make; let's hope things remain the same. If we consider MSRP, let's consider the MSRP of other pens as well to make a fair comparison.

Let's wait until that pen is available; it's ok to have opinions about it, but putting a pen down when none has used or seen it is absurd.

It doesn't retract flush with the barrel?

I am a big Lamy fan and as interesting as this looks................... I'm sure that I could grab a better German for that money.

I can't help but agree. Even as Lamys go, I'd rather have a Persona.

Actually, I'm not sure if I will. Same old non-2000 gold nib, which I'm not that keen on, and a derivative design which takes the VP and uglifies it!. Presumably the price is for the mechanism...

FPH has it listed @ $239. More interesting, they list it as available with OM & OB nibs available, as well as XF/F/M/B. I think I'm going to pay them a visit shortly (after calling to be sure they have one available to try).

The sword is mightier than the pen. However, swords are now obsolete whereas pens are not.

Pfhorrest: Thanks much for forwarding these. Very different perspective when held in the hand, eh?

From what I can see, the front of the clip dips down toward the barrel when the nib is exposed. Many of us might have expected (or desired) a Persona-type, flush-fitting clip mechanism, but for the purpose of actually holding the pen at the clip-side, this might work. (For those who have speculated wildly over the finish: the barrel is metal, the finish a satin-y Palladium, reminiscent of the Swift and Dialog 1 and 2 (quite nice to the touch, and smooth but not slippery, although some may disagree).

Yes, I'm thinking about it...but I'm going to jettison a pen to buy this one, not just because of cost considerations, but because I'm not into having more than three (and, thanks to a friend, I have four) FPs. I like to keep all my FPs inked and ready for action, and in my life, the magic number is "3." If I like the D3 enough to pop for it, the Persona might be going.

Edit: I was curious about the D3's (rough) resemblance, at the business-end, to the Persona:

I paid $200 CAD for my Lamy 2000 and it was on SALE!

If i didn't, I would have paid about $250!

WHAT???????!!!!!!!!! Here we can get a Lamy 2000 for $128 or less!!!!! You guys ARE getting robbed, both in Australia and Canada!

Dosen't really matter though. The QC is not good with Lamy so I decided I wanted to try the pen first.

I paid 115 USD for my brand new Fine Nibbed 2000.

I'm dissapointed that the clip doesn't retract flush with the surface of the pen. This will cause great discomfort for me considering how I hold pens.

It'd be a nice gift, though.
