I recently saw I custom Binde on a Pelikan needless to say I loved it and decided I wanted one.

I was really disappointed when I found out Chris was no longer doing them. So Is there anyone else out there making them??

Thanks

Aunt Rebecca's reply is what I had to say as well. If you contact Julia, let us know what she says. I am very much in the market for a binde or two and Julia is the only person I know of who might offer them. Chris Burton did some great work, but he fell off the boat for whatever reason. There is a definite market for Pelikan bindes, and I hope Julia is not overwhelmed (which might be part of what happened to Chris).

Lucky you are over there in the US - I used to do Binde Works,

in Germany, till Pelikan´s lawyers walked over and sequestered my 5 M800 pens, which I just had covered with vintage Lapislazuli Zelluloid.

What a waste.

Aunt Rebecca is right Julia is/was producing Pelikan Bindes. She also posts to Zoss and you will probably find reference to her bindes in the archive.

Chris did some wonderful work, I've attached a picture of three that he did for me about 2 years ago. The Olive Ripple on the 1000 Souveran is my favourite.

Any body know what happened to Chris?

I am really sorry to hear that! I think "waste" is a mild response.

I can get in contact with her if anyone need to, she is a regular at the IAP site for pen turners. Drop me a message with your contact info and I will forward it to her if you like.

At first I went Huh?

But then I figured out what a binde was... Now I know how to get a Pelikan I love the looks of. I'm just afraid to find out about the cost.

Grayson Tighe titanium version anyone?

Grayson did do a full Ti version of the 800 which promptly got a cease and desist request from the gents in Germany. I have an image that Rick Propas forwarded to me somewhere, if I can find it I will post it here for the drool factor.

Scott Meyer at Only One Creations is also doing bindes for Pelikans. He recently did a white casein binde on my Pelikan 400 at a very reasonable ccost and fast turnaround.

How would the pen manufacturer have any say in this matter? I'm allowed to put new hubcaps on my car, ain't I? :o

Precisely, maybe you would have problems if you try to sell them as Pelikan pens, but modifying them should be fine. That's what Classic Pens does, right?

I believe this is Chris Burton who used to do bindes, but seems to have gone out of business. IIRC, no one has had any luck reaching Chris for new work in quite some time.

I really don't get Pelikan. Customer can make what they want with their pens , can't they???

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

George, the Customer can do whatever they want with their pens as long as they do not offer them for sale as Pelikan original pens. I seem to recall that Grayson Tighe had the same issue with the titanium 800's that he made. It has something to do with the pens still being referred to as Pelikan's.

Personally, they would have to fight pretty hard to get some M800's that I had put lapis binde's on out of my hands. The work done to the pen subsequent to purchase is owned by the craftsman so they would have to compensate me for that part of it before the pens left my ownership. Of course, we don't know all the details, and quite possibly laws in the country where this happened are different than here or France or the US.

I dunno, but I would be kicking up one heck of a fight if Pelikan decided to come and try and confiscate my personally owned pens.

Cheers,

Sean
