Thick or Thin Ink ?

The Legend

Recommended Posts

I wrote down the interesting list below some time ago.

It was compiled by Glenn Marcus (www.marcuslink.com) who knows a lot about pens and ink.

On his current renewed website I cannot find it anymore.

So maybe we can make this list more actual and I ask you to complement it (e.g. Private Reserve, Noodler's, Sailor, Levenger, etc. or even groups within a brand).

At the 'end' of this thread, we may have an actual list (that I will try to recompile) and that can be pinned.

==================================

Thick or Thin Ink?

Ranked inks from Thick to Thin in the following order:

THICKER INK TO THINNER INK:

  1. Panache
  2. Parker Penman (now discontinued)
  3. Rotring
  4. Omas
  5. Aurora
  6. Parker Quink
  7. Dupont
  8. Waterman
  9. Pelikan
  10. Visconti
  11. Pilot/Namiki
  12. Yard-o-Led
  13. Montblanc
  14. Lamy
  15. Sheaffer
  16. Herbin Colour differs depending on the ink, nib and paper.

Moreover, how can one actually test the thickness or thinness of an ink, apart from look and feel? Any scientific view around here?

Keep writing.

Keep doing it and doing it.

Even in the moments when it's so hurtful to think about writing.

The problem with Noodler's is that it varies widely from ink to ink. Seems like each one is it's own unique formula.

Edit: That stupid shift key again . . . .

I see your point.

So, I suggest we make a special list for some popular colours:

Black, blue, blue-black, brown, green, and red.

In these, we include those brands with a wide variety in colours and thickness (Noodler's, Private Reserve, Rohrer & Klingner, J.Herbin). Other suggestions are welcome.

You can see the list of twenty popular blacks here, alphabetically listed. Anyone who dares to set it in the right order from thick to thin?
