I just saw this on the Goulet Pens blog:

This ink has been long overdue for a revamp. What are your thoughts on it? I know some people liked the version without any sheen.

I like it! Think all the JH 1670 should follow suit. Next up...dark green with gold flakes...I hope.

I like the original blue - but wouldn't complain if they put silver flakes into it.

With all the hype when the ink first came out, I was hoping for silver flakes (well, can't be real silver, that would tarnish). I got a sample of it and was vastly underwhelmed.

When Stormy Grey came out, though, and I saw a writing sample of it, I absolutely had to have a full bottle, and was NOT disappointed.

I'm actually interested in what the reformulated version looks like now.

Samples are definitely the way to go with this ink. If you can use up a sample, you'll probably like the full bottle.

I would actually kill for a black and gold ink along these lines. Does this make me a boring person? Sometimes I like a SPARKLEBLACK. :)

Instead of putting glittery stuff in inks, maybe we need somebody to start creating more user-friendly permanent inks?

Seems like a marketing gimmick. Sometimes high sheening ink such as Sailor Yama-Guri, can actually be difficult to read. How I got that ink to sheen on bad copy paper out of a Sailor Pro-Gear EF I will never know.

Not boring at all Resquiescat...I think black with gold flakes would be very cool. Good call!

This. Somehow, silver and blue is an excellent combination. Same with Black and Silver. Gold and Red (or other warm colors) is perfect. Silver and Cool colors are the berries.

The original formulation was a little too feathery for my tastes. Waiting on my bottle of new formulation to arrive this week to see if it improves. To be fair, Stormy Grey is a little feathery too, but I've relegated that ink to my fine-nibbed pens to keep the feathering to a minimum. Oddly enough, Rouge Hematite was not feathery at all for me, but it just had the tendency to get everywhere with that nib creep/leakage.

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

How about some radioactive Kryptonite. Not only would it sparkle (sheen) but it would also glow in the dark. And not even Superman would be able to read your diary journal

I respect other people's love for this, to me it looks horrible, I can only think "ink for disco Stu".

I like my Stormy Grey. Use it in pens that I have made and not in any of my piston fillers, but it is a nice color. I do find that it collects around the piston in the CC and there is not an easy way to get it out of there when you have it loaded into a pen. I wish I had seen the blue color from this post. I would have bought the blue bottle and the red one as well. Love those colors.

We have heard rumours that green with gold will be next in 1670 Anniversary range :)

Thanks Mishka.

You're now the 3rd 'industry insider' I've heard drop hints of an upcoming Green 1670.

Like I need more ink.

I think it would be cool, too! However, dark green and purple would also be quite spiffy.

The *coolest* would be black ink with red flakes, but I dunno if we'll get there. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
