Leonardo (Red Chalk) And Ancient Copper

Since I just finished bumping into a post in the thread on Montblanc's Leonardo (Red Chalk) where that ink was claimed to be Diamine's Ancient Copper, I thought it must be easy to disprove same. (For me personally, there is no way that they can be the same, just like there's no use in saying that Ford and Chev are the same.) So, I whipped out my equipment for a paper chromatography, ran it and in the meantime fooled around with a few other tools.

 

A. Tools: as noted below using Noodler's Blue (just their plain ol' "Blue", a colour I love but a smeariness I hate). Paper is Clairefontaine's GraF it 90g Sketch 41 lb.

As you can see, they are two completely different colours. This Diamine is also a much more saturated ink and yields a much higher flow.

 

B. Paper chromatography. Carried out as usual. (RC = Red Chalk, to the left, and AC = Ancient Copper, to the right.)

I don't really favour any of these two but it sure is fun comparing these things.

How does it/they compare to Noodler's Black Swan in English Roses? And yes...I followed you here.

Same player shoots again. Again2, RC = Red Chalk, AC = Ancient Copper, ENG = Noodler's Black Swan in English Roses, and AUS = Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses.

AIYDK it's now even harder to describe. I'd say that the English has a chance to compare with the first two because there is a lot of red, but other components are missing. I included Australian simply because of its second last name. IYAM all four are completely different critters, however you look at things. FWIW I find it interesting that as regards flow plus intensity and/or saturation, within each pair, there are the "superiors" Ancient Copper > Red Chalk and Australian > English.

 

OTOH a comparison within each pair (seen chromatographically):

might seem to be trying to suggest that AUS has more to do with RC, whereas ENG is practically the reciprocal of AC.

 

Is that a nice explanation as to how they compare?
