Rotring 600/800 Engravable?

I am considering purchasing a Rotring 600 (or new 800) for a work colleague as a leaving gift. I would like to get it engraved to make the gift a more personal sentiment but I am unsure if the barrel material would be suitable.

 

I know the brass barrel itself should take an engraving well enough but I am unsure if the black/silver coating might flake. I have spent some time searching but have not found any examples of engraved Rotring pieces.

 

Would anyone here have an experience or comments on this?

I've never seen on engraved with a drill, but laser engraving should be no problem. The coating is anodized, so it won't flake with either engraving technique.
